I owned an 04 chevy 2500HD 8.1 with allison for about a year, made plenty of power with terrible fuel economy but by no means is it underpowering these trucks in the way v-6s underpower the 1/2 tons. But obviously you're not going to see many gas engines in a 3/4 or 1 ton because of what these trucks are used for
