Int. PT365A questions.

I am looking at a 4 door dump truck with a crate International PT365A and an Allison 4 speed auto. Anyone know these motors/trannys and have any input? What is the hp? Any problems with motor or tranny?

What year and kinda of truck is it? Are you shure the tag isnt VT365a? I think you talk talking about internationals version of the6.0 powerstroke. Much better than fords.

89 Int. DOT truck, just going on what the seller said about the motor. Said the truck was 28,500 gvw and I think a 1700??? Did the have the 6.0L that long ago?

It might be the 7.3l and it might not be turboed. I've head the 7.3s in the medium dutys were dogs. Would barely get out of its own way.

A 7.3 would be listed as a 444. You have any more info.

That wouldn't be a DTA360, would it? It's about the right year and weight for one of those. Reliable but won't pull the skin off a rotten banana. HP is probably in the 150 range. The Allison is probably a 545, they give good service. What do you expect the truck to be able to do?

All the info that I have now, he gave me the motor numbers and said it did have a turbo. It would be used for a non-profit organization that needs the crew cab to haul alot of people and they haul stages, skateboard ramps, sound equipment, a 17K lb. backhoe, and building supplies. Sometimes they go cross country (not with the backhoe). If it is a powerstroke i don't see how it would have enough power to pull itself down the road.

The guy said he bought it to tow his rv and then went another direction so maybe thats why?

Sure its not a DT466A? Thats what our '82 crew cab International has in it. A DT360 won't be a powerhouse, but it will get you there. Towing the backhoe around will be probably the toughest thing.
I know guys that ordered them new with the DT360 and regretted it, wished they would have ponied up and got the DT466 from the start.

As long as they aren't in a hurry and don't mind the noise it will do what you want. It is gonna be a dog with the backhoe on there, I hope it's flat land where you are.

I will have to call the guy and see just what motor it does have. We are not that flat here and they tow the backhoe from S. Ca. to property on top of a mtn in Az. If the motor is the 7.3L I think they should pass. Thanks for the info.

It is most likely a dt 360, as others have stated not a huge power house but extremely reliable, if the truck has a 28,500 gvw then it is most likely a 1900, not a 1700.
