Info on new Furd Diesel..the Navistar Divorce looks to be final
WHY oh WHY do these things need that much power from the factory. I would much rather have them look into better fuel mileage than constantly upping the HP and taking the MPG's away.......

While we are on the powerchoke I saw another 6.0 huffing black smoke like crazy on an off ramp. He pulled under the overpass so I stopped and at least let him know about a possible CAC boot being off. He checked it and it was tight. Oh well. I didn't have the heart to tell time to get a hook because it was more than likely the EGR valve stuck open. Poor fellar... NOT!!!!

HP and fuel economy are not related in most instances. Diesels only use an amount of fuel that is necessary to overcome pumping losses, vehicle drag, at a given speed. This is why some of the diesels get slightly better fuel economy after they have been souped up. We can go into allot more detail if you like?
My Dodge which has 450 HP at the rear wheels consistently gets 23-24 on the road and about 16 around town.
If they made a big four cylinder diesel with enough power it would get better mileage.

Maybe they shoulda' said "30% increase in fuel economy instead", would've sounded way more impressive.
