i dont care for powerstroke at all. there not as good as cummins and never will be. but ford has better bells and whisles that dodge by far. 5.9CTD it a f-450 superduty would be the best truck ever. but i still love my dodge

When I first heard about the V8 Cummins in Diesel Power I think they said it was a 5.6L. They stuck some test mules in some '00 Rams, Daks, and Durangos. The V8 whipped the crap out of the 360s. And the Hemi. They started out with the goal of releasing them in '10 and to meet the emmisions standards out of the box.

I think they are all missing out not having a half ton diesel.

Talking to Ford dealers that are close friends, when they see powerstrokes with over 300,000; they are considered very high mileage. Even the 7.3. Even the oil field and rodeo folks don't like to keep them over 250,000. Concerning million mile trucks, Ford has very few considering they make over 850,000 diesel P/Us a year. Much higher % of Dodges (only make around 200-250,000 diesel P/Us year). I have had 2 Ford diesels. Bought for the CC. Both 2002s. So many engine problems Ford bought first one back. Then at 20k miles, 2nd one lived in shop. Engine and truck. Between the 2 trucks, in the shop 63 days in 19 months. Unacceptable. I've had nothing but diesels since 1993, hundreds of thousands of miles working and team roping. Just couldn't keep Fords running.

WOW, you failed to mention that. the 7.3 PS is the CATERPILLAR engine of 18 wheelers.

The 7.3 hands down can go the same mileage as a 5.9 cummins, Theres a 7.3 in a 96 F250 running around here with just over 1,000,000 on the clock, original engine, 3- 5 speeds and a rear. still drives it... the 7.3 is what ford had going for them and the fact that they were FORD. Every ford fan seems to be diehard and that is that.
I hate to break it to you, but all Ford diesel-powered pickups since the 6.9 L were IH/NAV engines with some Ford components (electrical/fuel system). The 6.7 will be the first pure Ford engine.

I think which ever auto company comes out with a 1/2 ton with a diesel that puts out pretty good power and get pretty good milegae is going to clean up. The other companies are going to be playing catch up. So the first company should have this market to it's self for a few years probably.

You should probably check into those numbers a little more. Maybe your right, no I take that back, I'm fairly sure that Ford doesn't produce that many f series trucks in a year, regardless of the motor or f150, 250 etc.. Last time I knew Dodge was only getting a little over 100k motors from cummins per year.

That's the scary part!

Even though I hope the Scorpion is as good as the hype, it's hard to forget the demise of the 6.0 - largely due to Ford's in-house designed fuel system... on an engine that was actually pretty reliable in OEM form for ag/construction applications.
