HX-40W rebuild

I picked up a broken HX-40. Just by looking at it i can tell the bearings are shot and also the compressor wheel. It might possibly need a turbine wheel and a compressor housing(wheel gouged into housing) I have done a bit of searching and cant find a good place to get a rebuild kit, especially one that comes with the wheels. anybody know of a place that sells these parts.

p.s. it was free and i think it would be a fun little project for me to do.

bearings and seal kit can be had from HTT and gellet diesel service, you can buy upgraded compressor wheels from them but i dont know about turbine shaft and wheel.

A helpful bit of info you might not have known - Holset has the rebuild manuals for their turbos available as free .pdf files on their site.

I worked in a turbo shop for awhile and the have seen many a compressor housing come through where the wheel gave it a kiss. We used a flapper wheel(sandpaper type) on a die grinder and would polish the inside and smooth it out. Rebuilt dumptruck loads of turbos and never one problem out of any I built and that was the norm in the shop. Had to be really bad to ditch the housing.

We had a machine at the place I worked at where we balanced the compressor and turbine wheels. All of our stuff got balanced on the machine before being put into service. Out of balance turbine wheel zinging at 100,000 rpm, yikes. You have to make sure your bearing housing is not damaged as far as the bearings being loose in there seats, seen a bunch with worn out seats and would have to get the housing machined to accept oversized bearings. Same with the turbine wheel, shaft. It will wear down and we've had to use bearings for that to.

We did build some turbos at the Cat dealer and did not balance the shafts or wheels but they were just basic builds. No touching, things flying apart and could get away with a kit and slap back together. Some of the more sever ones though.
