How bad do short miles hurt a diesel?
Re:How bad do short miles hurt a diesel?
Thanks guys!! Was just venting a bit. Didn't mean to sound so sour. But really, they ARE meant to be driven and enjoyed. Not sit in the garage with an oil line feeding fresh plasma into the engine compartment.
Just run em!!!
Just run em!!!
Re:How bad do short miles hurt a diesel?
I have lived in the same location for about 12 years and drive 1 mile to work. I used to buy junkers to drive to work while leaving my truck(s) set. Well, I finally wised up to the fact that the short trips to work just wasn't really affecting anything mechanically, never warmed up....just fired up and went. These were all gasoline engines.
Now I just own one vehicle (sig) that is used for everything from driving a mile to work almost every day, running kids to Soccer, pulling a fifth wheel camper around the eastern U.S., just about every situation. I follow pretty much the same philosophy as mymaur, keep the fluids changed and drive.
There is one thing I have found that short trips affect, the exhaust system! I would highly recomend a SS exhaust system, my last beater had Stainless exhaust and it about out lasted the car.
