straight piped 7.3's sound good at light/moderate throttle... great cruising down the road... sound like a gas V8 at WOT

straight piped 6.0's sound AWESOME at light throttle and moderate/heavy throttle WHILE the turbo is spooling... once they're at full tilt, they sound like a gasser...

Duramaxes sound like gassers the whole time.

Ha yea thos V8s only really sound ok at high RPM but at low RPM like Bigblue said in another thread, they sound like a flat tire flopping around.

I hate the sound of the older Cummins, and I heard a newer (Common rail) at Indy last summer that sounded like a Bee. Fo everyone that dislike the sound of the Duramax, there is someone that dislikes the Cummins. That don't make either engine good, or bad.

The best sounding Diesel at Indy, apart from the first gen that won the slud pulling competition, was the one drag rail they had (the one that actually ran).

That mill was turning probbaly around 5000 RPM and had that Diesel clatter to it all the way.

(And the sled pulling first gen just had that cam in it that nearly drove me into Diesel euphoria it was so cool.) (Even if it was a P-Pump in the truck.)

I agree one of the best sounding trucks I have heard was a straight piped 7.3 non-turbo IDI . It was slow but sounded great.

I guess I'm bias, I actually really like the sound of the V8 diesels.........my old 6.0L w/ an aeroturbine sounded freakin MEAN!!! That turbo whistle was incredible. BUT I still love the sound of the cummins the best.

However I'm not a fan of the new cummins sound, I just DO NOT like they way they sound with exhaust. Not sure what they did to change it so much but dang, they sound like butt!

I have a friend with a duramax with 5 inch straights. He is running an edge juice module, and it sounds flat out mean. I don't really understand how any "gearhead" could not like how they sound. Same with some of the powerstrokes. Now I liked my second gen with 4 inch straights better, but my third gen sounds like it doesnt really know if it is a diesel or not.

ps. It did however, walk off and leave the duramax with the edge juice, the 7.3 with the juice, and a stock 6.0.
