Heard a DMAX straight piped..
 

or at least with an aftermarket exhaust...It didnt even sound like a diesel, just sounded like a really badly out of tune V8 gasser..Nothing like our CTD's straigh piped!

That's what I've noticed to, you can't be the sound of a Cummins. MMMMMMM Straight piped Cummins. [guitar] :D

I was in a garage this past week where the owner has a very nice dually Duramax. Had picks on the wall of it at the track. He is turning 14 with it in quarter, but complaining the tranny is slipping so bad he has to pull out of it. He is running triple stacked boxes with propane. Nice looking rig. He had a 2nd gen before but sold it due to tranny. Now he was looking a little jealous at the White Ghost saying he is going to have to do the tranny anyway.

Yeah, it's gonna sound like a v-8 no matter how you slice it. If the 'V' sound is what you dig, then it's awesome. But if it's the inline sound that gets you, you're outta luck listening to a stroke or max. I'd personally rather listen to the 4.0 I6 in the little ladys grand cherokee than either v-8 diesel :cool:

have you noticed that powerjokes sound like a bunch of clanging and banging inside the motor, my friend has a powerjoke with 5 inch stacks, you can hardly hear the stackes for the raddaling

i straight piped 7.3 is a decent sound...a straight piped non turbo 7.3 actually sounds nice...the inline 6 sound is distinctive...nothing sounds crazier than a straight piped older detroit

i find that the 6.0 PS and duramax sound rather wimpy no matter what u do to them...the duramax may go fast by u but it doesnt sound like its packing much heat though...kinda strange

I notice a lot more turbo on the 6.0 PSD... 'bout time they fixed that POS garrett

I did notice that...a guy I know with a truck almost identical to mine, had an employee that had a powerjoke that was strait piped...came out in front of the rear tire...I believe it was a 7.3 and a 6-speed, sounded like crap. nothing like a CTD.

Duramaxes just sound muffled and, like, crap.

Like a turd blown through a kazoo...

6.0 Powerstrokes sound good... Or at least, some of them sound good. The funny thing about the 6.0 is that they all sound different from each other, depending on what's broken when... [whistle] [eyecrazy]

my buddy just put a 4" on his 06 d-max...couldnt tell much difference between str8 piped and muffled. sure is fast tho...geez its fast

and i definitly hate the powerchokes sound!

(the only thing i like is a powerstroke with an "whistling aeroturbone (i think), But not the rattle sound behind it!

(aint it possible to make a whisling sound on the CTD pipe?

Powerjokes and maxipads do nothing for me. My buddy fired up his powerjoke the other day, granted it was cold at this point, but when it hit the first time, It hit unnaturally hard and mad a weird "hard hitting" sound. I know it ain't much to go on, but I'm afraid it's gonna blow itself apart when I hear that!!
Love my CTD straghted out the rear, but it needs to have stacks done soon. Sounds much better at lower RPM's.

The thing that makes me turn my head every time though:
Day cab tractor, and 7" straight stacks behind a 3406 kittykat.
Just something about listening to nearly 15 liters growl at ya!!
