good work jeff, I guess i will be looking into a gas cap soon. Some people need to go to the school of hard knocks before they get, and even then some never learn. I would have loved to be a bug on the side of your truck to watch that, hope he never scratched your truck with his teeth

A locking cap may not prevent a determined thief but it's greatest benefit IMO (in addition to slowing them down) is letting YOU know that your fuel system has been tampered with, as in the case when someone might try dumping something into your tank.

Good going Homestead, we have to keep our part of the world siphon-free. Gas prices jumped up to $1.14/L today.

The arresting officer called me today, the dude is being charged with attempted theft, vandalism and resisting arrest and destruction of public property. The resisting arrest and public property thing happened after they hauled him away. Dude got a little mouthy in the back of the cruiser.

The guy wants to charge me with assault using a deadly weapon! The cop just laughed at that one and said no worries, "the guy still doesn't have a clue as to what or who hit him" He was found at the scene of the crime covered in diesel, a hose hanging out of the filler neck of my truck. He said it's pretty much an open and shut case. After they told him that, he just pleaded guilty. There won't be a court case or anything involving me.

Cop did ask me what I hit him with though. Told him I just punched him in the back of the head when I came up behind him. I know he never even heard me approach him so I just drilled him and I gave him a couple of extra pops while I was waiting for them. Cop told me has has a pretty good goose egg on the old noggin!! He even said it was a good thing I used some restraint and not just beat the daylights out of him.

After all that, I popped the dent out of the quarter panel today and all is good!!! Still a little PO'd though.

Jeff

It's inside the fill tube and is designed to keep the fuel in your tank when the truck is upside down. Many people remove the ball so they can fill up with big truck nozzles full speed.

I tried to put a garden hose down the filler tube on my 04 to test and it went as far as I could push it...easily 8 ft went in. I wonder if the new trucks have a different system? I also can blast the truck nozzles for the first several seconds before it billows up the fill tube.

Jeff, the idea that a guy our size can move quietly and fast is...well kind of scary in itself.

I would not hesitate to do what you did. Actually if we were both there, it might have been even more enlightening for the lad. LOL

I have not heard 'throttle him' for a long time.

In good ole Saskatchewan we called it throttling when one had hold of the perp by their esophagus.

118.9 a liter here today.

Jeeze am I the only one that thinks this is overboard, I mean you could have dented your truck. Next time maybe it should be a light hit into the truck and slammed into the pavement instead.

One more thought, I've been thinking about doing a lockable fuel cap but figured it'd be easier and cheaper to wire one of those electric power lock solenoids intended for non power lock vehicles to keep the fuel door locked with the doors. Only problem with it is the occasional surprise of the door freezing closed, which with enough effort could be undone under the truck.

This reminds me of what happened to a friend of mine in the seventy's when we had the last big oil crisis. He had converted a motorhome from a gasser to a Cat Diesel and had it in his yard were he was finishing up the install. During the install he changed the tank locations/uses around (black, grey, fuel) and hadn't gotten around to finishing up this area of the install yet. Anyway the fuel fill was connected to black tank and he came out one morning to find a hose in the filler neck and a big area of puke on the ground That was a good laugh story around there for a long time after that

I got my locking cap from Geno's a few months back. It is a mopar one. Been thinking about how to catch fuel thieves. I was tempted to put a door switch(like the one that turns on the interior lights) on the fuel door, to the horn relay, with a dash cut out of course(look silly at the pumps wouldnt it?) So when the crook opens the door at night with his hose, the horns just goes nuts. just a thought. #2 is $2.95-$3.15 here now.
