Exclamation Got chased by the orange snake in my driveway...

Well, I've done it now. I left the block heater plugged in when I left home one day. Needless to say, the bright orange extension cord start following me, also came with some wierd noises when the slack ran out and pulled the plugs out from the behind the grill.

So now I have a block heater cord that I have to repair, so I thought while I was at it, to put a bumper mounted cord socket in. Anyone know know where I can get a decent looking socket for the front bumper? My wife isn't too keen on the idea of me putting an outdoor rated house socket on the front bumper.

EDIT : See my new thread on installing a set of Marinco sockets for the block heater.

Head over nto any OTR truck dealer. You'll find what you're looking for in their parts deprtment. Personally, (it's been a few years) but I liked what they put on the Western Star trucks - clean.

We put a Kussmaul Auto Eject on ours... That way the orange snake can never ever follow us. turn the key and POP, the cord pops out....

Do you back in (to where the outlet is)? Might want to consider running one down the frame rails and out to the BACK bumper. This way it it just self disconnects when you forget it (as in, "I meant to do that"!)

Heres a pic I found from a member over on dieselstop:

And another: (using Lighted cord for even less of an excuse to forget it)

I don't have to use mine very often, but when I do, I run the cord where I "trip over it" on the way to the tuck. Something about "mumble, mumble, mumble" that makes you remember to unplug it.

My plan was fool-proof...untill it fooled me I run the cord up and around the ram hood ornament a couple times, that way, when I get in, I'm looking right at the cord....except when there's 2 feet of fresh snow and I'm 'just' gonna back the truck around in order to plow. Ever seen a Ram hanged? Now, I run the cord through the door handle

P.J.

That is a slick looking setup, do you have any more info on it?

Now that I am think more on it, I thought, why not put a front and rear connection on. Be easy to do, just wire it up in parallel.

I picked up a nice "chrome" flush mount socket at napa for like $6. Part number crossed to an international truck, but i just told them what i wanted, and they brought it right out. Havent mounted it yet, as i am kinda stuck in my bed, but when well, i plan on getting right on it

Here is a link to their tech article on it:http://www.thedieselstop.com/content...r%20Plug%20Mod

Mods/Admin:
if you don't like the link just delete it. I'm not sure if you'll take issue to this particular site, seeing as they don't care much about a Cummins anyway.

Brawhahahahahahahahahaha

I thought I was the only one that did things like that. It didnt hurt my heater cord but it sure mangled my outdoor ac socket. The worst thing about it was my wife saw it all.

I have never unplugged my cord by hand in ten years, just back up.
When new I spliced and routed the heater cord to the driver's side with molded plug and attached it bullet proof the the frame.
Extension cord end is tied around a post.
Works for me.
