Good deals on GM's right now

Has anyone seen the deals GM is currently offering? They are giving the public the employee price plus rebates. This is somewhat tempting HMM new duramax LT Crew. Naah.
Example :

2005 Silverado
MSRP: $47,005.00*
Interior: Leather, Dark Charcoal

Employee price 36,835.53
-3000.00 Rebate
33,835.53

You can go to the chevy site and check on any thing on the lot and it will tell you the employee price.

Gee, I wish I would have waited another month to buy a new diesel......NOT!

GM's gotta do something to move vehicles and help their bottom line. Maybe they should forget about building 06's. This will give them another year to sell the 05's, then they can start fresh with 07's.

I just figured out the #'s. In this example, GM's employee price is under 79%. Add in the $3K cash back, and you're looking at getting a truck at ~ 72% of sticker. They must really be marking these bad boys up.

GM is going to get hose on this. Ok check it out hey I will sell you a 05 for employee discount $XXXXX ok this goes on for a year and then it goes away. What you have just trained the public to do is wait and they will have to do it again.

I wonder if any of those brain trust have ever thought of just dumping redundant lines of vehicles. GMS CHEVY same thing ...on and on. How about just selling one line of non redundant vehicles. I think they must have not paid attention in their production operation management classes.

And this is how your stock gets to be at junk status

Just like they did with the 0% financing. People who planned to buy in the near future jumped at the 0%. They did get some customers that were considering other brands, but most of the one's who bought, were looking to buy from GM down the road. (pardon the pun) j

They robbed themselves of future sales. Unless they come out with some hot models that people want, like the 300C, the dark days will continue. I feel bad for all the people who work at dealerships and the vendors. They'll continue to suffer and it isn't thier fault.

And think about the poor soul who bought that same truck last month and paid say 40K for it and he thinks he got a great deal.....but now his truck is only worth 30K cause you can buy a brand new one now for 33K.

Not only GM is doing this, but Ford and Dodge also. Truck and SUVs sales are on the skids so the manufacturers are trying to make up lost grounds by offering great incentives and low prices.
Heck, looking at the car ads in today's paper some local Dodge dealers have '05 2500 Ram QC SLT, Cummins with auto for $26k.

If I was a GM employee I'd be a little PO'ed about this one. Of course, if I was a GM employee I'd be thankful that I hadn't been laid off.

I just hope that if things get really bad the taxpayers don't end up footing the bill for a bailout like Chrysler in the '80's. In a free market some companies will succeed and others will fail.

12Pack, I must respectfully disagree.

I believe it is at least partly the dealerships that are at fault. GM has a long history of crappy products and crappy service to the customer. I, for one, will NEVER purchase a GM product again. I learned my lesson.

Example:
Corporate turns out a pile of crap. Gets customer in door with low price.
Customer buys said pile of crap.
Dealer continually screws customer when pile of crap needs service (Think $47 for a fuel filter)
Brand loses customers to other brands who treat them better.
Brand must now lower prices to move other piles of crap they can't get rid of.

If dealers and vendors
#1, made a decent, well made, long lasting product and
#2 treated customers like human beings,

I believe the customers loyalty would jump.

PRODUCT:
We pay a pretty good premium for a Cummins engine and we get our moneys worth. When was the last time DC needed to lower the prices to move diesel trucks? Why so many repeat owners (I'm on my second one)? Good product thats why.

SERVICE:
It isn't just GM. DC service could improve (ask me about my 70 MPH vibe) as could service from most auto makers. However, my dealer is working with me on the problem. They are treating me like a human. If they had a lousy attitude, I'd just lemon law the truck and buy from a company who treated me better.
Ultimately it is the dealer that has to work with the customer day in and day out. Crappy service turns customers off and sends them to other brands.

Low initial price can only go so far to saving GM. The rest has to come from the dealers and vendors.

Steve

'I' think the dealers (DC/Ford/Chevy) have screwed themselves. For years they have marked up vehicle prices as much as 30% and then stick it to the customer when it comes time for service/repairs. I think the big three produce way too many models to be cost effective. Truck sales is keeping them afloat, but the import trucks are starting to get to a full size category. What happens when your able to get a truely FULL size import truck with a diesel and a dealership that offers 24/7 parts/service/repair?

When I lived in New Orleans, a Toyota dealership service dept is already doing this.

Gm is cutting 25000 jobs by 2008. Not looking good for them.

Hit the nail on the head. We as Americans LIVE on subsidy. I feel for the folks at GM, looks like they are saying the'll cut another 25,000 jobs by 2008. BUT, the government needs to keep their beak out of it.
