Gm/duramax could be a good thing

I soiled myself tonight fellas/gals. I have 1983 Chevette diesel, it has the 1.8 made by isuzu. Last time i drove this thing was back in 02 and got mid 30s mpg just put her in storage because i didnt feel like insuring her and lisence and the what nots. Pulled her home today stoppin every 10 miles or so to fill the tires. Thank god for on board air. Anyway. home clenaed out 5 house nests. One was up under the cowl, one was under the air cleaner, one was in the glove box one was under the rear back seat. and the last was in the celling which was fallin down. took about 30 minutes and found the key for the darn thing. I was sure she would need a jump start as my batt charger was junk. put the key in and the lights turn on. im like hum. Turn the key and she started!! Im like whooo hooo It had its coughs and what not, but she started. Bet she smoked worse than any truck on here haha.

So next time i need batteries you better believe tis gonna be an interstate.

And the next time i buy a truck it might just need dto be a gm/dmax If there quality kept up that is

When I was high school I worked for a repair shop that also sold Snapper lawn equipment. We had a 84 Mercury Lynx with a small diesel in it. I dont remember what brand or size it was but it ran like a champ. The car had around 450,000 miles on it and looked like it. No one had any idea if the motor was original but it always ran. We used the car to pull a golf cart trailer to deliver mowers and as a run about. After I graduated collage I needed a cheap work car so I got to thinking that would be a great little beater to have. I called them up and asked if they would sell it. They said sure come and get it. When I got there it was litteraly burryed in a snow drift. They said it had been parked for around a year. Took the jumper pack out and ran the glow plugs once and it popped rite to life. On the 180 mile drive home it only took 3 gallons of fuel and a few quarts of oil. I drove it till it finaly blew at just short of 500,000 miles. Them import diesels arnt all bad.

What does this have to do with a D-Max though? WAY different motors, and most dont put them in storage for 2 years

Reminds me of the slant6 Plymouth had. I had one as a kid and the darn thing was bullet and dummie (me) proof. Ran no mater how bad I beat it!! That and the old Chevy Blue Fire six were the most bullet proof gassers I ever heard of.

Not really. It's a joint venture between Isuzu and GM. GM had a hand in the development since they own most of Isuzu. It is NOT 100% Isuzu and the first V-8 Diesel Isuzu had a hand in designing. The only promising aspect of this is Isuzu has been designing diesel engines for a very long time.....since 1931 I believe.

Here is more information if you're interested:

DMAX was founded in September 1998 under the share equity of Isuzu and GM, 60% and 40% respectively.

From your article. now like i had said before, This thread isnt about the duramax, who did what to it. The whole thing is they are both Gm and Isuzu products. It was a flippin joke. Now if you have some good story to share with the group. go for it. If ya dont. then leave it alone. purty cut and dry

Sorry to offend you, that was not my intent. Many people out there believe that Isuzu is the sole designer of the Duramax engine. Just sharing the knowledge is all. That is why I personally visit many diesel forums; to learn and share lessons learned.

BTW: The above percentages are now incorrect, sorry. Here is an updated excerpt from the link provided below:

DMAX was established as a diesel engine production company in September 1998 in Moraine Ohio,
60 percent capitalized by Isuzu America and 40 percent by GM (now 40% by Isuzu and 60% by GM).
DMAX currently has a 150,000-unit annual production capacity, producing new generation 6.6-liter DI direct-injection diesel engines for commercial vehicles. The engines comply with the stringent US regulatory standards for environmental protection, such as emissions and fuel economy. All engines produced at DMAX are supplied to GM for GM Chevrolet and GMC brands.

Darn Guys,

We're talking about Dummax engines here, who cares? We drive Cummins! If King wants to jump ship it's his choice. Today is Easter Sunday, no fightin' save it for tomorrow.

That sounds rite. I remember it was a aluminum(sp) head with an overhead cam. The only reason it died was because the cooling fan dident work and I got it stuck in the mud on a level B road after a rain. I wasent waching the temp gauge and severly over heated it. I think the head cracked or atleast blew the head gasket. It ran fine after I refilled it with watter. I drove it for a few more months till the petcock blew out of the radiator 7 miles from town. When I got to town it was kncking realy bad. Shut it off at work expecting it to never start again but after work it fired rite up and purred like a kitten. Found the plug, refilled it and drove it for a while longer till it refused to run any more.
