Generation splits
1st gen Dodges started in early '70s(71?) and had the same basic body style with only minor cosmetic changes and the introduction of FI until '93. The '94(2nd gen) model was totally designed and was completly different from pervious years.
Also a 1st gen 12V Cummins is different than a 2nd gen 12V engine. They use different a injection pump, trannys(no TC lockup on first gens) different t-case(pumpkin on front diff was moved from passenger side to driver's side) as well the front of a first gen truck has leaf springs and rides like a lumber wagon. 2nd gens got coils. When buying a 1st gen truck you aren't buying a 15 year old truck you are buying a 30 year old truck!

Thanks everyone for edumacatin me. Now i am one little bit closer to being a genious.
I assumed that the engine was the deciding factor in the gens i did not know that it was the body styles.

Ha too true! My first truck was a '73 W100, then an '85 W200 now I have a '93 W250 CTD. I've had the same winch and bush bumper on all three trucks! Bolted right on. The first time I wemt into the dealer for a part for the '93 he commented that we wasn't sure if he stocked anything for a truck that old. I was a bit put out as I had just bought it and it was wasy newer/nicer than my previous trucks! I got over it though when he turned out to have it in stock.
