Fuel timing?

Fuel timing?
Ok I, all the reading I have done, still not sure how timing affects the engine. I know the fuel is injected sooner, but what are the advantages of it? Do EGT's go up or down with advanced timing? Would you want adv timing towing? Need some insight.
