I truely wonder how long this will last? And no I dont mean the rising cost of fuel. I mean the American citizen being taken avantage of by industries. Be that whoever it may. I used to say in a funny way "I cant afford to drive to work" but now its not funny that I truely cant afford to drive to work! I really dont know what I'm going to do if this doesnt let up. Does anyone know of a place to write or e-mail to complain about this issue. Isnt this what we put them in office for? If they dont do their job then dont re-elect them!

Unfortunately it seems to be a failing of our democracy that the politicians listen to the interests who put forth the most bucks. This really isn't what our forefathers intended. Best way to get the government back to the people, is to lobby/write/petition for reforms to the campaign contribution laws.

Four states have enacted laws that all campaign contributions on the state level will be handed out by the state, no more corporate interests nor the candidate's personal finances.
This way anyone who can get enough signatures to get his name on the ballot can get the same amount of campaign funds as the guy who Exxon has in their pocket.

Considering the poor choices we've had in candidates (the lesser of two evils) for quite some time this could bring a taste of fresh air back to our country.

Here's how Maine's Clean Election Act works http://www.tompaine.com/feature2.cfm/ID/3244

LOOOOK OUT!

I just filled up 10 mins. ago. at 63.9cents/litre here in Canada.
I haven't seen what diesel is jumping to, but gasoline pumps were lined up cuz gasoline is jumping up now to 89.9cents/litre from 79.4c/l as I type this.
quick conversion to U.S. gallons 63.9 x 3.78= $2.41/gallon
gasoline was 79.4 x 3.78= $3.00/gallon
gasoline now @ 89.9 x 3.78= $3.39/gallon
That's 39 cents per U.S. gallon jump.
On a 35 gallon tank, that's an increase of $13.65 to get the same amount of fuel.

Talk about a TOTAL RIPOFF..........

There has to be some way of stopping this B.S.

Oil Shortage??????

Go figure why the price is going out of sight yet there are no waiting lines due to fuel shortages as there were back in the 80's when the prices skyrocketed!

Please dont preach about the WAR or Bush causing this. This has everything to do with enviromentalist wacko groups not allowing us to drill in our own land putting us between a rock and a hard place. Yes the same loonies that drive their cars to the protest sites. I truely believe that rocketing fuel prices are a conspiracy by OPEC and the left to make Bushs rising economy look bad for the up and coming election. What better way to effect a good market than hitting it where it affects EVERYONE! Our country is being split in two for the power of control. Like once stated here, this is not what our fore fathers wanted. They ran from a world like this and if it doesnt get better (I believe its only going to get worse) we are going to see a new generation civil war. The only real way to stop the high cost of fuel is to stop using it, but thats not going to happen. Maybe we need to raise minimum wage or welfare funds or better yet give gas to the poor, the needy, and the illegal alliens. That will help.

Im stationed in Northern Utah....Hill AFB.......2.09 a gallon yesterday......this is outrageous because its higher than mid grade gas..not the cheap stuff...pretty soon itll be higher than premium...wish I was back home in Texas where its still cheap......Isnt diesel cheaper to make (Refine) than gas? Thats why i dont understand it being higher priced than gas...maybe its just price gouging....

On top of that, Utah uses no OPEC oil, all domestic or Canadian.

Was talking the the local Chevron owner and he agrees, Diesel should be way cheaper than gasoline.
He said that Chevron recently sold a lot of their Diesel to Flying J, for no reason other than the mighty buck.
He also said he's not making any profit on Gasoline or Diesel, relying totally on the Food Mart portion of the store to make money.

At the refinery gate, let's say barrel of crude $40.00. At the pump say $2.25 gallon. The barrel of oil has now turned into $90.00. So, with the refineing costs, transportation, marketing, taxes etc. $50.00 markup cost.
I am being conservative here, but about $30.00 or more profit is being made per barrel right now. Remember a % of the barrel of crude is refined into much higher cost products and netback will be more than $90.00.

Who is making the money you ask. Well you know the government, in states and provinces that tax petroleum products and the oil companies are having record profits for the first quarter of 2004. Some will have reached their yearly profit targets by June 1.

Who is scamming who and who is going along with it. Many are blaming OPEC, but they are not the major player they once were. OPEC does have an influence on crude prices, but there are other major players at work here. Might company bonus's, politics, shareholder/stockmarket games also be having a MAJOR impact.
The service station operator is not making the big bucks, so that leaves the middle paragraph as the enemy. Just my opinion of course and I deny any knowledge about anything written above. The devil made me say it.

If anything, the states are losing money. Fuel is taxed per gallon (here anyway), so due to price, fewer gallons are being sold. I'd bet most people are paying the extra, and not reducing their driving, but some must be, so less is being sold, imho.

Just got back from the gas station where it was $2.30/gal. Guy filling the truck said it will hit $3.00/gal by July 4th. Oh well, food is over-rated right?
