Post fuel injection pump rebuild or takeapart

I was tinkering about a little earlier trying to find the "leak" in my fuel system.
there was a puddle of fuel in the top valley of the block and the motor had been idling eratically. Kindof running more normally now and is kicking out of gear when idlling down a hill etc.. Anyway's I removed the hose that goes from the square fuel filter to the injection pump and it seemed to be allright as in no scrapes or holes that I could see. However curiously enough in the metal line that goes into the puimp itself there was a piece of celophane stuck in the end of it. Now the engine was running when I cut it off , but now I am out of fuel. (banged on tank and got hollow sound to verify what the needle indicates.) this obstruction rather bothers me though and am curious as to whether anyone here thinks I should internally inpsect the injection unit for any foreign materials before I attempt to refuel and reprime the system for a job I have to do(collecting pallets for profit. , and any other materials I can remove and turnaround for profit.) However at the time my funds are rather limited so I am electing to turn all wrenches in house. just wondering if any one else can or has any input on the situation. the engine is a 6.2 automatic with a mechanical lift pump.

I guess that since no parts other than a few o-rings are available over the counter there isn't much use in taking a VP apart. You may get some insight into how the thing works but there isn't much you can do to repair it. There was a thread a while back where a guy took one apart and fixed some part but it would have been extremely rare ...according to what we are told. The electronics are completely proprietary so not available.

I would also think that if you took one apart and reassembled it and sent it in for a core it might not be accepted.

circusboy90210,
A 6.2L GM engine will have a roosamaster injection pump on it. There is a screen at the inlet of the pump as a last resort to catch anything big, just make sure its clean.
Unless you've done one before and its still on something and running I would not recommend taking it apart, could possibly do more damage than good. Seal it up and prime it.
