How do 1992 & 2000 blocks compare?

Hey all, just wondering how close comparison on a 1992 block vs a 2000 block? Buddy needs a block, has a 92, can get a 2000, would it be useable? Other than the 24-valve setup(which is all to do with the rocker arms, isn't it), I can't see much difference. Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

I don't know the exact differences, but I know the 53 block is one to avoid if you are getting a 2000 block. Go to the 24v forum and search for 53 block to see exactly what I mean.

I know the 2nd gen motor mounts are different between the 12v and 24v, so I know there are differences.

some 98 12 valves i believe were built on a 53 block so if the later 12s and the 24s are the same, then id have to guess the ones on the 1st gens are too.

Yeah, I can see the added mounts on the 2000(from pics), but they still have the older 2 mounts as well. Know about the 53 block , will have him check to be sure it is NOT! Thanks for your inputs, have a good one!

Do you plan on making block-splitting power?

heh heh, no he has a really worn-out 92, and apparently does have access to a supposed good 2000 block. I don't think there is any intent to build for power, just stock running specs. We were just wondering if the bare blocks are essentially the same to assemble/install, as all the right stuff seems to be there. In other words, we are wondering if anyone knows for sure if there is something that would PREVENT us from using a 2000 block in place of an original 92 block...clear as mud now?

Nope, they're different. I got a set of mounts for a 24v when I needed to replace one of mine and they were totally different... wouldn't even remotely fit.

(assuming you mean that you attempted to install a 24V engine mount onto a 12V block) Read my statement above a bit closer...I can see the 24V mounts are different, but the 24V block also has the original 12V mounting locations cast into it...but thanks anyway! I don't think the externals are different at all; I'm wondering about internals here folks, guess no one has had the experience with these motors?
