Ford Expedition going diesel.....
From today's edition of Autotech Daily
"Ford Motor Co. plans to add a diesel engine to its Expedition SUV lineup within the next two years, Automotive News reports. More powerful gasoline powerplants also are in the works for the full-size truck.
Speaking at a press event in North Carolina, Expedition chief engineer John Viera tells AN that Ford still is considering a couple of diesel engines for the vehicle. The Lincoln Navigator also may get the new diesel.
The oil burners likely will be fitted into the extended-length versions of the SUVs, which were just introduced. These models basically are replacements for Ford’s discontinued Excursion SUV, which had a 60% diesel take-rate last year.
Earlier this year, Ford announced plans to offer a diesel engine in its F-150 pickup by 2009. That powerplant likely will be a larger version of the 3.6-liter V-8 system outfitted in European Land Rovers. This engine also could be used in the new SUVs, which share some commonality with the next generation F-150."
