Ford to Dodge

Just wondring if anyone else here is in my same shoes. I have been a diehard Ford guy my whole life, I recently sold my 96 7.3 I loved that truck I had a ton of money in it but it ran solid. I then ordered a F550 but was very weary of the 6.0, I like to take my truck to high output and knew it was going to be a struggle with the 6.0, I was going to completly rebuild right from the start. Then decided I was going to swap for a cummins but got concerned about the hidden cost and problems. So I went down to the Dodge place and looked, went back the next day, then returned a few days later and drove one. Few days later I cancelled my order and bought a CUMMINS. Now I am very impressed with the whole package great truck. Anyway I am enjoying this but sometimes it is weird almost like I am having an affair but I like it.

I to was a Huge Ford diesel fan (still got an old 6.9) until I got a late 97 powerstroke and couldn't keep it running (Ford Buyback) I wanted to get a superduty with a manual what I nightmare none on the lot and they were talking 3 months to order.. I knew guys with cummins trucks and they all loved them. So I got one, Best thing I ever did. great power, great economy, no breakdowns.

I really need the load capacity of the F550, But my 04 3500 had no problums and I am sure my 06 will be the same. I like the superduty truck but their is no way I will go back to a V8 diesel.
I know look back at that 97 powerstroke and wonder why I bought that when I could have had the cummins in the first place.

Just like y'all My first truck was a 91 IDI. Smoked like train and was a ton of fun. Not long after I brought it home the trans went out. Still to this day was the best truck I have had. Sorry to say it beats my CTD right now. Thats only because I have only drove mine a bit over 100 miles and the engine blew. When I get it back there will be no comparison. One day I will probably get a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI for a toy. Cant beat the CTD for power and gas millage though.

Holy krap, that musta sucked! (captain obvious, I know) How did it happen? If it makes you feel any better, I know a number of people with 7.3 IDI engines in their Fords, and the engine didn't last to 120,000. Not a fan of em, myself, but each to his own.

Oh, yeah. I went from a 1993 F-150 with the gutless, gas destroying 302, so my Ford to Dodge transition was definitely a positive. My dad is a GM guy (hates Fords), and I was getting sick of being around GMs exclusively, so I tried a Ford. Frankly, my dad was right.

I tried them all. Had a 5.7 in 79, 6.2 in 86, 7.3 in 93, a 5.9 in 96 and my current truck in 2000. I loved the 6.2 in the Suburban. No power but it would run forever. The 7.3 was good, but ran real dirty in the pan. My 96 Cummins would run for 3000 miles before the oil would change colors with Rotella. My current truck has 156k on it, my 96 has 265k on it, my son has it, and my next truck will have a cummins.

Ford toDodge

Old: 98 1/2 ton Suburban old pushrod 350 (actually an ok motor a bit gutless) stock M30 tranny (not a good set up for a burban) 3.73 limited slip rear end. I was at 150K and was intending on driving it to 200k and maybe look at another one. Then tranny & rear end started to go out I said hmm this will be my 3rd tranny & 2nd rear end and I am one of those people that does regular good maint. This is a little stupid. Anyway I looked at the 3/4 ton burban , the various diesel & gas configurations in Chev, Dodge and yes "gulp" Ford, it was tough for me I have had various Chevs for 25 years.
I wanted tough, towing & space. New: I ended up with a CTD Crew Mega cab. For me best all around package. I lost a row of seats rarely used and gained well, cold weather diesel fun and so far a tough as nails set up....

I have flip flopped a bit too I guess. My first diesel was a 98 5.9L Dodge, then to a 2001 7.3L F250, and now back to a 2005 5.9L Dodge. I loved the 98, should have never gotten rid of that truck, the Ford engine was good, but the 6 spd manual tranny went thru 3 clutches in 89,000, so it had to go, and now I am very happy to be back in the Dodge/Cummins!!

This is my 1st Dodge and I love it, and so does my wife (and she's super critical). I have had Chevy and Ford gassers, and they were decent trucks but had their share of problems. Hell, my Ford needed a new engine with only 13 miles (that's not a typo, it was thirteen miles) and the Chevy went through starters like crazy. Both had tranny problems with less than 50k miles, and the Fords heater core leaked at 20k miles. My truck prior to the MegaCab was a Nissan Titan. In the beginning it was in the shop every other week. It was an early build of the 1st model year so it had a lot of little bugs that needed to be worked out, but by 20k miles it was a solid truck. Tons of power and a blast to drive. But my 8000+ lb travel trailer was too much for the 1/2-ton suspension. I new a diesel 1-ton was what I wanted/needed, and after much research and some test driving the Dodge fit my needs perfectly (love that MegaCab) and was what I liked best style-wise. I love it and don't think I could have made a better choice.

One of my friends came over to visit the other day and her dad just bought a new F250 Superduty and she brought it over...she kept bragging about how cool it was and how dodges suck...i just listened and didnt say anything about fords....then she asked how my gas mileage was...i calmly said "oh around 21 mpg." That shut her up!!

I like that line too.. They don't believe it when they see gauges in there, but hey, my books don't lie...
