From Ford to Dodge can the Dodge tranny take it?

I currently own a 2008 F250 6.4, and I'm looking to buy a 2011 2500 6.7. I have previously own 3 Dodge Cummins and I miss it. Now I have the H&S MiniMaxx on the Ford and run the Hot tune with no issues with the tranny holding up the the power.
My question is can the new Dodge tranny hold up to all that power? My previous Dodges couldn't and I had to do an expensive rebuild. I'd like to keep and use my MiniMaxx, what do you guys think.

One of my friends here has an 08 with the 68rfe, he murdered that tranny after about 5 months of deletes and a smarty on 5.

Another guy that had an 07.5 with the same tranny and deletes ran his smarty on 3 and did not have any problems after a year.

I don't think the Dodge tranny is as stout as the Ford (and I think the Cummins is a little harder on it because the torque comes at a lower RPM). I'm by no means a hot rodder but I'd personally be wary of dumping any extra power on a stock Dodge tranny.

I have an 08 with the 68RFE Auto, with the Smarty on CaTCHER level 3 (60 hp at the rear wheels) for over a year now. I have towed a 5er for two years with this truck without the Smarty and one year with the Smarty installed. I have had no issues at all with mine, I am now at 39K miles on the truck.

The Smarty instructions state that the auto transmission can handle up to 60HP at the rear wheels with no issues. The prolong use of high horsepower above the 60Hp at the rear wheels could lead to transmission damage.

Thats what I wanted to know. My Ford can handle the 250hp Hot tune and I guess if I get the new Dodge I'll have to up grade the torque converter to handle the hot tune.

Get the tranny program from H&S. It adds pressure and other good things and it works thru the Maxx.

its all about how you drive, iv had mine on SW:5 for over 28,000 miles and my tranny is perfect (knock on wood). if you turn it up all the way and floor it consistently, yes you will blow it.

Well

Mine is still intact and fully functional.

Deleted and power adder at 17k. Will flip 70k on this trip home.

Ran a Smarty/Edge stack for a couple of months too.

now now John,

to be fair, I cut it no slack, but, I always properly maintain everything on my truck, watch the vitals, proper warm up and cool down times, etc.

Plus even when you get into it, you still gotta use common sense. Im under a 36ft trailer right now with around 5k on it. Not a huge load, but enough to know its back there. Got a 300 mile trip home with it. Im running SW3 and let the truck to do work, you cant race the trailer your pulling.

Now soon as its back home, its back to SW5 and a bit of fun

How about the dodge manual trans?

I have herd mixed comments about Dodge and their tranny's my whole life. Last month I broke down and sold my 06 F250 and picked up a 2010 Ram 3500 DRW w/ a 6 speed Manual. I've never herd anything bad about these tranny's, Whats your take on them and how well do the hold up to a tune?

Hey RangerJoe, Welcome to the DTR.

When you get above 100hp over stock is when you need to be really careful with the 68RE.

I ran my 2005 stock and used it to tow heavy all over North America, the auto trans went at 99,000 miles and they could never get it right after that, replaced the trans twice after that until the truck was replaced.

New truck has 6-manual and love it.

just my 2 cents

I can't speak to much on the 6 spd manual trans but from what I have read. The real problem with them is the Dual-Mass Flywheel, from what I have read this is the week link in the manual.

Heard a few guys slipping the converter on the RFE68 running the mild setting. The manual truck can take more abuse, but the clutch will slip if you run much more than hot. The turbo on the 6.7L is small and restrictive. On paper a 6.4L ford is better, but you can get power out a 6.7L, just isn't cheap. At 800-900rwhp, the stock 6.7L rods seem to be the engine limit.
