From Ford to Dodge can the Dodge tranny take it?
Heard a few guys slipping the converter on the RFE68 running the mild setting. The manual truck can take more abuse, but the clutch will slip if you run much more than hot. The turbo on the 6.7L is small and restrictive. On paper a 6.4L ford is better, but you can get power out a 6.7L, just isn't cheap. At 800-900rwhp, the stock 6.7L rods seem to be the engine limit.
Mike in your sig. your going to up the hp with a BlackMaxx, what are you going to do with the tranny?
Some trucks require a rail pressure shim on the fuel rail for the hot tune, could also throw the bag of parts at the CP.
Casey and Bentley are still working on bigger power tunes. I think that the biggest tune for the 2010 truck is a 120HP tune. The 7.5-9 have a 225 **** hot tune available. My 2010 is my family RV hauler and the truck tows well in stock mode. I have other trucks to play with and there is no need to break stuff yet.
The 68 must be way better then the 48re no? My o4 has been turned up from day one, Bigger turbo (after I blew up the stock one) and all I have done to the trany is a valve body and converter as soon as i got it. I have 130,000+ on it so far and it has been great. I will be ordering a 2011 next week so tell me who makes the best converter for the 68 so I can put it in right away.
There are lots of options for converters. ATS, goerend, suncoast, DTT, and so on. Have you looked into the overdrive software? Hard to say which transmission is better 68 vs 48. As for in stock mode, the 68 is very good. With the simple trans tune that H&S give ya, its very nice. I think that the later year stock 48, where probably as tuff a dodge stock transmission you could get. The aftermarket stuff is better. The stock converter for the 68 isn't bad, just doesn't have the hold capacity. In stock mode, the trans should hold up. Aftermarket 68 parts are pricey, so beware of sticker shock.
I love the Overdrive tune from H&S for the 68. It's night and day different. Much improved over stock. As far as the 48RE being a better tranny, you bet it is. Suncoast, however, has conquered the 68 to hold the Cummins but it's way up there in price and I'm not sure when they will be readily available.
When you get your new truck, and after you delete it, 60HP and the OD tune will put a smile on your face for quite a while.

Kwhite, how adjustable is overdrive? I'm just running the standard black maxx trans tune. I just can't justify the extra $$$ yet.
I wouldn't tow anything heavy with the tuner turned up, seen to many guys (me with my older trucks) that done that and had issues.
My best dyno for the 10 is 400rwhp, using 6.8.5, black maxx, stock everything. My 02 best dyno slip was 680rwhp, lots parts and lots of fun. Ran that way for three years, now I use it more as a work truck, still dyno's at 450rwhp.
