Well I'm not sure if this is the right way but I wanted to keep the pipe snug to the headache as possible so here's a pic,..there's a piece of angle welded to the headache with two, 3/8's bolt holes through it and a 1/2 thick mudflap sandwitched with a small backplate. You can see the rest, it has good movement side to side and almost no movement up and down.
I first used 1/4" flap but it moved around to much,...3/8's would prolly do the job



Doing this next to the pipe allowed it to stay purdy close to the headache



Fitted & tack welded the pipe together under the truck and removed with the aid of a folklift, lifting high enuff to slide it out and weld her up.(that ideal almost didn't work LOL)

The 4" to 5" adapter is about level with the bed floor.



I cannot remember the brand of the muffler. It's not a Donaldson, it had a 4" open hole through it. Your C/R motor will have a different sound anyway.

I'll see if I can find out what the brand is.......

thanks man...thats just what i was looking for! I will hopefully be starting on mine next week when the stuff gets here. I am going to try to stick with my 51" donaldson because it has a nice sound and is jus tmarginally louder than stock. Before that i had tried two different straight through mufflers which droned like CRAZY and very loud in the cab.

one thing i have thought about if i cant fit the 51" donaldson is trying a shorter donaldson type muffler. i dont mind sound outside, i just DO NOT want the ear splitting highway drone !!!

Got her finished up.

Used a Band clamp and a tranny mount from a 75 chevrolet and a peice of 1/4" steel to mount the stack to the headache rack. Turned out NICE Very quiet in the cab, no drone as before. But outside it sounds much better....and has a nice deep yet quiet tone, and you can hear some turbo whistle . The exhaust note is smooth mellow and DEEP
