Exhaust wrap

Morning all, just curious on thoughts about wrapping exhaust with fiberglass insulation tape, from the turbo/exhaust mainfold , the entire hot side of turbo and down pipe. We wrap the marine engines from the hot side to the point at which it exits the boat at bulkhead. Would this retain too much heat in turbo, or have no effect. Just wondering if anyone has done this.?

I think it would help with regards to spool up, plus it might keep thing a bit cooler under the hood, not a bad thing for folks running open air filters.

To counter MikeD's points, It's my understanding that the insulation greatly accelerates corrosion of the pipes and such due to the higher than otherwise temps. This in fact may not be an issue with diesels as the exhaust is substantially cooler than a gasser.

Moroso makes header wrap, I have had mine wraped from the turbo back to behind the cab for years, it will quiet it down and it will not hurt the turbo, if anything it will keep the heat away from the fire wall and cab and again it will quiet it down. Goodluck,,Rick

I had header wrap on my F250 with a 390. It did keep the heat in but the headers only lasted a year or two. Now I don't know what gasser EGT's look like, so diesel may be ok with the added heat.
