engine rebuild kit.
engine rebuild kit.
when i was in the business i could buy gasser engine rebuild kits that contained just about every thing one needed to build an engine. whole lot cheaper than buying piece at a time. anyone have a source for a kit for our 5.9 cummins.
troble is,we dont have cylindes that pop out....so there is allways the choice or problem of which piston do you want??
and of course you have to educate the parts man-as there are no grades of pistons after you go oversize ,,course he will make spend hours prooving it too him!
In a big engine its pretty simple, you get the piston and cyl. complete....in the little one there is alot of veriables

if the bores need to be punched out larger, cummins does have some oversized pistons avalable. or if you are going this route, maybe check with mercruser, as their new QSB5.9 marine engine with the common rail is rumored to have articulating pistons [steel crown, aluminum trunk] so if the weight wasn't much more, that would allow for hotter egt without meltdown...

if the bores are in good shape so they just need a light honing, and the stock pistons are in good shape, just reuse them after cleaning [& inspecting].

if you are doing a overhaull, you CANNOT in frame these ,They are not like a big truck eng. Oh I know someone is gonna say yes I can....start off why are you needing a over haul 1-burnt piston=rebore new piston =reballance.
2-loose or thrown rod/main bngs or low oil p.=now you need reground crank. Re sized rods and you cannot roll in mains on this eng with guarnteed results as you will bust off the plastic oil cooling jets.
I could go on.....do I need to?

Never say you can't , it can be done , it is done to the ISC all the time , and they have the same piston cooling nozzles as the ISB. there are ways to do the job right. and not worry about the nozzles.
Like I said some will say it can be.....the plastic jets cant be inspected....if they are loose and jumping around the 1/16 plastic shoulder that holds them there wheres off and bam it jumps out the hole and no oil P. to mains !!....But hay we prooved we can roll in bearings!!........When ya take it back to the shop for failure is there a warentee for this??No you wanted a inframe and cant be done!
How do you check for rockwell?,,
how do you check anything for being sq.and strait??......lot of presumeing going on here..............like said why dose it need a o/h anyway??(something is worn out)
B.T.D.T.
Ps besides the likely hood of just breaking off a jet on 2 thrue 6 is tremendous
