Dumped my diesel & it's YOUR fault...

OK, here's the deal. After reading these forums about all the bad, expensive things that can happen to our diesel trucks, I finally traded mine off and got a little economy Ford Focus. I was too worried about KDP, VP44s, Trackbars, steering boxes, APP sensors and ball joints. Every day I would come to the forums and read about someone else having a problem. It got so I worried constantly that those things were about to happen to my truck. Now I can breathe a bit easier.

Thats not a good reason to get rid of your truck. Any of that stuff can happen to any vehicle. I just drive my truck and when something breaks I fix it, that all anyone can do.

Reading all this stuff can scare you but remember, its not you! I have had not a lick of trouble out of mine, except when the factory lift pump died in the middle of no where and ate the VP. I turn wrenches for a living and see alot of bad things but keep up on your maintenance and don't drive like a moron everyday and whatever you drive should look after you.

Let me get this straight. You were worried about your truck's reliability so you BOUGHT A FOCUS! I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh but you know what the ford mechanics call them right? Substitute a U for the O and you'll get it.

Sounds like a good move for you. You obviously did not need a heavy hauler if you replaced it with an economy car. Price of diesel and mpg have anything to do with it?

Let us know when you get rid of the Focus and blame it on the Ford forums.

What you don't here on DTR are the thousands upon thousands of CTD owners who drive their trucks daily and have no problem. We're the ones who "play" with our trucks or plan to own them until they drop dead and then plan to try to revive them. I doubt that we're what most people would consider the "average" CTD owner.

Is weird that I see all the problems here and want a CTD more? I don't have one yet, but I'm saving. Very slowly. Gas prices have started to actually eat at that savings. But I still want one. I don't turn wrenchs for a living, but I went to school for automotive, and do all my own work. Someplace like this excites me, but doesn't scare me. No, I don't want a 24v so I can have fun replacing a VP44. But the people here know what I mean.

And for the record, I bought a 2000 Focus for my wife, at 120k. Its at 142k right now, and finally the original clutch is going out. The previous owner never did anything but regular maintainance on it, and all I've done is that as well. In my ownership (the past year), I've replaced 1 tire, timing belt and water pump, battery and alternator. All are original, except the tires and battery. The timing belt not being changed ever scared me, btu nevertheless. I can't fault Focus honestly, its running like a champ save for that clutch.

BUT, there is no way in hell I'd trade a CTD for a Focus, if I had one.

The fact that you bought a focus won't avoid untimely repairs. If that was what you were looking for, you should have bought a Toyota or a Honda. Even then Toy's and Honda's need Timing belts every 90k and on some motors if you wait you toast the whole motor. Timing belt job is $1000 and is required every 90k yet alot of people here on the forum complain when their VP-44 goes out at twice that mileage.
I'm new to deisels but I'm camparing the IP to the timingbelt in other 300k -400k motors and thinking it's a wash.

Also, remember that on a discussion forum like this you end up with a lot more "THIS HAS GONE WRONG HOW DO I FIX IT??11!11eleven" than "WOW MY TRUCK RUNS GREAT!"
