Dually Diesel: Ford F350 Lariat vs Dodge 3500 Laramie

My dad is leaning towards a ford right now since he does alot of travelling with 4 people in the vehicle, I said whatever but in '06 you better go with a dodge since they'll probably get a crew cab.

Comments or things I can say to stop him?

Have him go here and do some reading in the archives. It may open his eyes.

MOst Ford people are impossible to sway because their loyalty outwieghs their intellect.

That said, the Fords for '05 will be much better, as now Ford is using a Dodge design for the front suspension (finally went to coils), and they've had 2 years of customers doing R&D on the 6.0.

If Dodge's MB automatic tranny makes it into the truck this year, it will be tough to pick a Ford over the Dodge.

If/When Dodge makes a real crew cab AND has the great MB auto tranny, then they've elminated the ONLY two reasons one could ever use to justify buying a Ford over a Dodge.

Personally, I'd go with a Dmax/Ally before I went near the Fords.

Neither does for me what my CTD does, though My CTD is the best counseling/therapy money I ever spent

I'd drive both back to back. The Ford was loud, the steering required constant corrections, and the ride was harsh. The interior with the extended cab was too small, the crew was too big. The Dodge was just right. Dodge is also quiet, AND drives great.

If I was going with a new truck now I would probablly end up with a Dmax/Allison combo. They are great trucks with plenty of room and power. I guess the exterior would have to grow on me though. I cant get past that. Yuck.

I was seriously considering a new 6.0/torqshift and ready to sign the papers, but I just didnt like the powerband. Plus, every one I test drove felt completely different than the last and that worried me.

I ended up deciding to go for a truck that I wouldnt have to take out a loan for and I couldn't be happier. Much more comfortable than the Dodge. The 7.3L Powerstroke is great. Too bad Ford didn't stick with it.

Tell him to buy what he likes best.

It amazes me how the same vehicle impresses people differently. For comfort of seating, the captains seats in the Chev were the best. The ride and drive of the Ford the worst and the crew cabs in both Ford and Chev were buses - - man they are long. No way. The seating of the Dodge is very comfortable, but I would sure love to retrofit a nice captains seat in there - - my tail can be a little sore at the end of the day. As for the drive, the Dodge beat them all. If I were going auto, I would want the Allison, but it was slushy - - nothing like the stick. Ford did not have their new tranny out when I was looking. All told, I am quite satisfied with my beast - - good truck.

So you would have gone with a Ford if you went with a Automatic tranny?
