dodge going to cat?
dodge going to cat?
anyone else out there heard the rumor that when contract is up with cummins, that they are going to caterpillar motors? guy who told me is usually very reliable-
i seriously doubt it, the new 6.7 motor is up to snuff on emissions until 2010 so i dont see anything changing till after that. But dodge has had success with cummins so i think they will try to hang on to it.
Exactly, dodge has a good reputation and a loyal customer base with the cummins and I can't see them putting any of that at risk. It would not surprise me at all if Ford went to Cat sometime in the near future after all of their recent legal quarrels with nav
Maybe this will bring the diesel wars up to whole new level. 20 year/ 1,000,000 mile warranties that can't be voided, trucks that can fall off a cliff and still be good as new, 1000hp standard, and only cost $3.
Fall of a cliff and still be good as new, that reminds me of the that Toyota T 200 that was on top gear (I think I got that right) anyone seen that video of the indestructible truck?

It'll probably be along the lines of a Duramax . http://news.windingroad.com/category/auto-news/isuzu/ . Whoa , I just read that first part of that article . GM dissolving the diesel partnership with Isuzu ? What will happen to the Duramax ? VERY interesting . As for the Cat rumor , that may have come from the press release announcing D/C coming out with the class 4/5 Sterling Bullet which is basically a Dodge 4500/5500 but the release says the Bullett will use engines used in the rest of the Sterling line . Sterling is powered mainly by Cat or Mercedes . But here's the latest - Cummins powered http://www.sterlingtrucks.com/Sterli...fications.html .
GM is discussing potential for dissolving diesel partnership with isuzu while having talks with daimler about purchasing the Chrysler division? Cummins in a chevy?
i'm pretty sure that Cat wants no part of the pickup truck market. They also do not build a small engine that will pass passenger vehicle emmissions.
i'm also pretty sure that if cat were to build a pickup-sized engine, they do not want DC, ford, or anyone else telling them how to do it, do not want to have somone else's "electronics" running their engines, and probably do not want to work with anyone in the development of that engine. Cat likes to be the boss, not the bossed. dont forget also that cat thinks that their engines are worth more than their weight in gold, and the buyer will pay big $$$$ to get that yellow paint under the hood.
right now, cat has no problem getting engines to move out the factory doors. i think that cat really just does not have interest in moving into the pickup truck market, or dealing with with some of these yahoos who know nothing about diesel engines, but just have to have one in their pickup truck.
as much as i would like to see a cat in a pick-up, i wouldnt hold my breath waiting. i also do not see a toyota coming out with a cat engine. i think toyota would use a supplier along the lines of themselves, or maybe isuzu or something similar.
if they actually made a super duty with a cat engine, i'd be first in line to buy one. but since i dont see it happening anytime, i'll stick with the ol '92
