I think what will make this combo is the towing capability as good or better than the Hemi, with fuel COST very close to the V6.
This engine has been in the Euro market for 5 years (according to the Dodge Commercial Trucks rep I talked to yesterday at the Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY). They think it will get at least 26 MPG highway (I presume in a 4x4). The Jeep Grand Cherokee is estimated 28 for AWD and 30 for RWD. This engine is rated for torque about 5% over the original 5.9 was in 89, and considerably higher (like 50% higher) HP, IN A HALF-TON truck. It's not a new engine, mechanically, although we don't know at the consumer level what issues the US EPA configured engine will have.
My current diesel is a 2006 Liberty CRD (2.8 L VM). Other than some hidden electrical issue and the weak-kneed TC (both of which I blame on Stuttgart), it's a pretty stout package. It would tow 5,000 lbs easy, and if/when I figure out the electrical, it's getting a built TC and a Green Diesel Engineering full-torque eco reflash (running a de-tuned ECO flash now, which added 3 MPG). I get mid-20s on summer grade (some have said they get high-20s to low-30s) in my KJ (1st Gen Liberty).

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
I'll have to let my neighbor know. He gave up his '08 dually 6.7 for a '10 gasser and he is ticked at the mpg and lost so much power and capacity to boot. He was wanting to go back to a diesel, maybe he'd take a liking to this new one?

i think i will keep my 12 valve.
i work on new internationals/sprinters/hinos for a living. not really a fan of the newer epa compliant engines.
engine sounds great but you wont catch me down in line with check book in hand

I'm still waiting for better word to come out... I want to trade the wife's 08 Hemi Mega 2wd in on one, but I think I'm going to wait a year or so after they come out.
