Dodge Annouces 1500 Diesel

Not sure where to put this.

It's about **** time!

The ride of the current 1500 ( I have one) is great. Now coming with the power and mileage of a diesel. I'm in! Does anyone have a programmer for it yet?

Finally! That's the only thing that would bring me back to the dealer for a new truck.

They are very nice trucks.....I saw a couple of them in the last few weeks, they are combined with the 8 speed trans, should be a sweet combo as long as they are not priced out of the ballpark...

Yeah if they can keep the price in line with the ecoboost it should be a hit.

They build engines for a lot of manufacturers, mostly for the non-US market. When I lived in Italy I drove a lot of vehicles with their small diesels in them. They were fun to drive, got good mileage, and seemed to last just about forever. I wouldn't think twice about buying one of their engines.

That being said, I never buy the first year of anything. It always takes a couple of years to work the bugs out. I'll be watching them really close. When I get ready to trade in my 2500, that's probably what I'll be looking for.

Great!

But how badly will they neuter it for emissions and EPA requirements? Will it have the same kind of clog up problems like the 6.7L when it came out?

Amen to that!

But if they have a proven engine, I might trade in my 1500. I'm tired of 13 MPG.

Here's an allpar.com article with info on the VM Motori engine that's going into the Ram.

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/V6/VM-RA-diesel.html

It does look like it will get a diesel particulate filter.

I'm really curious how the MPG is going to stack up against the hemi ram with the 8 spd transmission. I'm expecting a 2mpg bump over the 6 spd on the highway (19mpg), putting the 8 spd hemi combo at 21mpg, maybe 22mpg.

If they can advertise that magical 30 MPG Hwy figure, then they stand a chance of it changing the game.

I wish them luck.
