Dodge 1500 quad 4x2

Hey guys,my sister is wanting to upgrade into a supercrew or the dodge quad cab in 4x2.Now i am pretty well versed in the bigger,i.e. diesel trucks,but i am not exactly awe inspiring on the newer gas rigs.She will tow a 5,000 boat occasionally.Any t.s.b. or recalls on these trucks.Anything to avoid?Tips? You get the picture.Thanks in advance.

Well,as always fuel mileage is a concern.I dont think the hemi would make the cut.

I had one last year, and the 4.7L w/3.73 rear and 5sp a/t sucks way too much gas to be economical. The best I got pulling a small horse trailer was 9. That's horrible!

It takes torque, not horsepower to pull weight, my company truck is a 2500 gas "magnum" 360cid, nice truck to ride around in, but it won't pull much. I frequently pull a wire tension machine with it that weighs about 6k and it gets 4 to 5 mpg. Even empty with a few tools in the bed the best I ever got was 12 mpg. Glad I'm not paying for the gas! It has 95k on the clock and is on the third transmission (auto), second ring and pinion, 2nd tranfer case , 5th tracbar and the list goes on..
I Don't know anything about the Hemi engine, but if I were your sister, I would go for the CTD if for nothing else than the resale value.

I had a 97 318 4X4 Club Cab, I got 14 around town, and 18-19 on the highway, Wife and I drove an '04 2wd HEMI half ton, tons of power and a pleasure to drive. If you are concerned about mileage why buy a brick to push through the wind, go buy a Neon. And any of you guys with 4X4's saying you get mid to high twenties with the CTD probably need to refine your math skills.
