I shut it down, but only if I'm local driving or it is Winter and say below 20 and the turbo is cool. Usually I have to wait a few minutes at idle because there is always and most stations up here only have one diesel pump. I leave it running if I'm on highway or towing unless I need a break. In that case, I'll sit and idle it for a bit before shutting it down, get my business done and then push it over for fuel. I've had a couple of gas turbos and they need the cool down time even more. They are soo expensive.

i dont when its cold out...like tonight, it was 17 and the wind blowing, i let the truck high idle about 5 minutes, then slowly went up the road and pulled up to the pump, started pumping and low and behold 2 minutes into this routine the high idle kicked on again and warmed the truck up while the SLOW pump put in 32 gallons of fuel, and i froze my tail off holding the broken pump that didn't have the latch

I thought you couldn't leave it on with most modern OBDII gassers without causing a CEL to come on... I didn't realize a modern diesel could be filled while on and not trip a code... interesting thread...

I do because it takes me like 15 min to fill up since my truck holds 85 gallons.

I do now, I've installed the Fass 150 Pump and it WILL shoot out and get you! I never did before the pump install. It was a kick in the pants for me, my opinion shut it down, I've seen more than a fare share of miss-haps at the pump.

I shut down while fuel. FASS pump will make you regret it if you don't shut down.

Why is that? I never shut down at all when I had the FASS and I still don't now that I have the GDP.

I REFUSE to shut a Diesel down when I fill up as that is one of the great things about having a diesel!

I fueled up about an hour ago and didn't shut down, and I got back into my truck, now I only needed to be filling a 2 gallon fuel can while talking on a cell phone and I should have everyone in an uproar.

The way I look at it, it’s your money and not mine if you run it for how ever long. IIRC is it not the law in all states to shut your engine off while fueling? I've seen some stations tell people to turn it off or stop pumping fuel. At our local stations they also have a sign saying to make sure you turn off your cell phone while fueling. As I understand it some phones have had batteries problems and have caught fire so they don’t want to take any chances it may happen to you or anyone else while your pumping fuel.

I don't shut mine down either. Especially if its cold outside, I start the pump and get back in the truck and wait for it to kick off.
