Tough call.
The '06 Rams with the Hemi MDS is getting better fuel economy than the previous years. I'm hearing 17-20mpg highway from owners.
If I was looking at 1/2 ton trucks that's what I would get.

Exactly. Maybe no cooler truck to have than a 93 or 94 3/4 ton, ya know, with "only" 160 HP! And the unfortunate thing, one of them 'ol girls with 250,000 miles might even be more reliable than a new one. No no, I take that back, one of them old ones very likely WILL be more reliable. You say you dont like your Durango getting 10 MPG pullin the boat?? Ahem, your thinkin of getting a HEMI?!?!? Lastly, how will you feel cruising down the freeway, loaded or empty, when a Cummins pulls up alongside you, pulls into the passing lane punches it, spool up, black smoke out the pipe, and takes off into the sunset, as your quiet HEMI continues to suck gas with a fire hose?

If you don't have to have a Cummins then why get it. The Hemi will pull that boat just fine. I had a Quad Cab Hemi. The only reason I got the Cummins is because the 1500 couldn't pull a goose neck horse trailer worth a crap. Don't let your wants get ahead of your needs. I did buy my 3500 used. Someone took a beating on it and it wasn't me. Got it last year with only 17,000 miles on her. Get a used one if you have to have one.

Thumbs up

Last weekend I traded my '04 Hemi Q/C 2x4 for my '06 CTD Q/C 4x4. Both Laramies. I dont have one OUNCE of regret. I love this CTD and it is getting exactly the same mileage as my Hemi did with 20,000 and it only has 450 miles on it.

Now I find out my truck is unreliable.... Thanks guys!

My Hemi only got 15 mpg period. No matter how I drove it. My CTD gets 16 MPG to 19 MPG depending on how I drive it.
