Is DC shooting themselves in the foot??

Do all of you think that Dodge is hurting sales with the way that they have significantly reduced the # of engine models they offer in their trucks? Remember in the mid 90's or so, when in the 2500 models and up, you had the option of a 5.2 (2500), 360 (1500 2x4-3500 CC 4X4), and in the HD, the V10 and CTD. There were almost limitless combinations of drivelines, motors, options and bodystyles for those years. If I was a farmer who never towed, but plowed, I could have a bare-bones 4x4 2500 with a 318, or if I had a horse farm, and had a 5er,I could go with a 2x4 single cab 3500 with a V10. Today, 2 options. You all know what they are. Today I saw a really nice 03-05 3500 DRW reg. cab 4x4 with yes, a HEMI. I couldn't believe it. DC should have kept the 488 c.i.d V10 as an option in the HD trucks for those who still swear by gas. Marketing blunder??

They have the Hemi that they know the full rights to the name on.
They have the Cummins that is the only big rig engine that will fit in a pickup.

What more do you need?

thats about the way all manu's are going, just like the new jetta's you get a package 1 or package 2 thats it,but some of the options i want are on pak 2 but i don't want most of the other junk,so i'm pretty much screwed, just like crank windows, does anybody make a vehicle with crank windows?? how about without a/c??heck i'd even order a car without a radio if they had the option, then i could put my 8-track in there and i'd be happier then $#!t.why do these manu's think everybody wants this junk, they need to get back to the old days of letting you order what you want period.

There's a quad cab long bed 3rd gen here in Asheville that says V10 on the front fender. I'm guessing it's an early 03 and one of the last ones? I've been curious about that myself.

The 03's were the last year for the V-10's and all those were were just left over's. Why run a v-10 that gets horrible mileage when you can run a v8- hemi that's got the same power almost and gets slightly better mileage?

Very few of these trucks made and yes, only the early 03's were available with the V-10.

The Hemi is underpowered at best for a true HD truck. I'm not sure whether Dodge was thinking they could sell more, higher priced, Cummins powered trucks by dumping the V-10 and not offering a large displacement gas engine or whether they just dropped the ball.

Just wait- - - -I bet that DC will be bringing a big bore v8 to the stage in a couple of years! Mabey the 6.1l hemi that makes 425hp and 425tq! But thats in the SRT8 vehicles. The truck engine will make around 400hp and 480tq! !!! I would about put money on it! GM and Ford has a big bore gas sucker and DC will be back soon!

I'd imagine it's because of the low and midrange torque the 488 produced. The hemi doesn't make anywhere near as much low rpm torque as the 488 did, which greatly helped get a trailer moving. Same basic reason the cummins pulls so much better than the hemi, though the hemi makes more hp.

They may have the same problem our company does.

A bean counter that sits in a little cubicle who orders the replacement fleet vehicles that has absolutely NO concept of Specs needed to perform a given task in the field.

I see lots of new 2500 QC's around town with the HEMI badge. I just shake my head and think you're either a sucker for the name, don't know anything about CTD's or are scared of them. A hemi in a 2500...it's sad.

I'm sure some companies prefer gassers only to avoid the Gas in a diesel, or diesel in a gasser repairs.
It's also eaiser/cheaper to only have to procure/keep track of ONE source of fuel vs two.

I just say to myself, "what a waste of sheet metal". I almost feel bad for them. Almost.

Think about it.. 10 cylinders. 10! Almost 500 cubes. If I ever had to go back to gas... That is one impressive motor, well worth the 10 mpg.

Isnt the Ferd Triton V10 a smaller bore&stroke? Kinda like a weedeater motor?
