Cummins to produce a light duty line for US....
I read in today's edition of Autotech Daily that Cummins plans on producing a new family of diesels for an unnamed automaker for use in SUV's and pickup trucks sold in North America. They're expected to be phased in by 2010. The production site hasn't been chosen, but has been narrowed down to a few locations. 600 people are expected to be employed. This will be the first light duty engine designed for North American vehicles. It's important to note that a 3.9l Cummins four banger is used by Ford for pickups in Brazil. The report claims that potential customers include Nissan and Toyota. Ford is reportedly looking at a smaller Range Rover diesel for use in the F-150 and Expedition SUV, but it was reported two years ago that they were also looking at Cummins for N.A. applications.
