Snow Vehicles
As a snowcat fan (worked for LMC/DMC for several years) it should have been obvious why that thing wouldn't go- to much ground pressure. The magic number is 1psi for the presumably wet & heavy snow they would've encountered in Antarctica, .5psi for high-elevation powder.
Speaking of snowcats- which ones had Cummins engines if any? None of ours did that I know of, we used primarily CATs and a few Scanias in the diesel-engined lines. I thought Bombardier (now Camoplast) used Perkins & Detroit but I could be wrong. Of course the Europeans used Mercedes & MAN.
Just answered my own question, looks like Pisten Bully puts a 660hp 1100ft/lb Cummins QSL in their 400. That sounds like a lot, but you lose a lot of it through the hydraulics by the time it reaches the ground.
