Pt Cruiser
Going to sell our 88 Cadillac (or maybe put it in storage, nice car) and get a PT Cruiser to combat the cost of fuel
Anyone have , had or know anyone who has had any expeirence with the PT ?
most reports i have gotton seem to mark them pretty high for duability. Pretty much will use it for a grocery --ball game runner

Bought a slightly used one. Great car but not much trunk room. Weighty little thing, about 3200# which surprised me. Millage is OK but not great, ours highway gets about 23-25. Like all things dependent on air on, heavy foot etc, etc.....Handles well, just not a CTD. Probably would take a little work to burn the tires from a stoplight but they do have a turbo model also. The 2.4 liter is fairly good for performance. Definatly not a hot rod but reasonably good for daily driving. Ours around town millage is about 17-20 depending if I am driving it or wife. Remember by todays standards it isn't very well streamlined but suprisingly very roomy inside. 4 adults can be moderatly comfortably unless back seat are over 6', I'm slightly over 6' and when driving have to lean forward to see traffic lights, that is my one and only major complaint on the car. PM me if you have any special questions. Or can call you to discuss, give me your phone number if needed.

Honestly there really hasn't been any "common" probs with the PT and over the years they've held up quite nicely. Even out here in "hell" the a/c systems have worked great and no complaints of overheating. The turbo ones do get up and go quite nicely. For the few I have had to tear into, it would have been nice if they made the front clip removable.
My parents HAD a 2001, that they bought new in late 2000. It got bad mileage for how small it was. it got a realistic 18 mpg highway, and less in the city. It was mostly highway driven, and didn't have any issues besides regular maintenence. They just traded it in on a 2005 toyota corolla "S". The corolla gets 35 mpg highway, as opposed to the 18 the PT got. They are saving enough in fuel costs alone every month, to make thier new car payment. IMHO, if you are looking for something to save on gas, look toward something other than the PT cruiser. As far as reliablilty, my parents had almost 100,000 miles on it when they traded it in, without so much as a hicup.

We traded the 2K1 PT in on an '05 CRV...the PT had ~40K on it, and got 17-ish city, MAYBE 24-ish hwy; The CRV is getting about 26 COMBINED, is more comfortable, quieter, handles better, and has tons more room - not to mention being much quicker / faster than the PT. It does feel a bit top-heavy, but....
If you're looking for better mileage, I concur with other postings - the PT is not the best choice!
