vw makes a 3 cyl diesel hybrid called the luppo(spelled right i think). but it's not for sale here in the us.... go figure.
i'd love to have one, then i'd use my bio in it. but for now my gas hybrid will have to do.

Friend put a 3 cylinder (I want to say Kubota) diesel into a Triump Spitfire back in the late 60's.(It was a Popular Mechanics project). Bolted up with min. fuss. Was slow to accelerate, but he got 65 MPG highway. Used it as his commuter car in Ca.
Drove by a dealer in another state and spotted what appeared to be a Grand Cherokee diesel for 08. But, if the mpg isn't better than the Liberty, what's the point? Has anyone seen a diesel VW Toureg?
The point is the Liberty had an Italian engine that could no longer meet emissions standards . The Grand Cherokee has a Mercedes BlueTech engine .
Gee , I wonder what happened to this . http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/special-rams.html

Diamler/Chrysler Smart Car....
From what I've read, they're available overseas, and get over 50 mpg.
Not what I'd want to take a long trip in, but as a 'round-town ride, it would be sweet.

CNW Marketing stated that GM's gas guzzler only cost about $1.95 per mile to put on the road, while the Prius rang up $3.25 per mile in order to hit the pavement. Reportedly, these zany numbers include all production costs -- which supposedly run around 50-percent higher on the hybrid -- bu

I saw a diesel Toureg when I was up in Sequoia National Park a few weeks ago.
I looked up the Lupo, apparently it gets 78 mpg! It's just that here in America everyone is used to big cars. Even our smallest cars like the Toyota Prius or Honda Civic are considered "big" compared to European standards.
i have the insight, 87mpg is my best sustained mpg. whats great about the lupo is that with a few mods i think that 100mpg would be attainable
