case skid steer with cummins??
I was running a case skid steer and I looked at the motor and it looked like my 92 12 valve motor but it was a 4bt. Everything was the same lift pump, valve covers but when I rubbed the dirt off of the i.d. tag it said case on it. Thats all I could read it was in a bad spot. Does anyone know if case buys cummins engines and rebadges them.
Case & Case IH puts Cummins engines in the majority of there stuff from what I know. Our 1680 has a 5.9 12 valve in it, our 5240 and 5220(traded on a Deere) had Cummins in them too. From what I can tell is they do rebadge them so you can pay them for parts and not your Cummins dealer.
thanks guys, I opened my mouth and told one of my co workers that I knew it was a cummins by looking at it but when we rubbed the tag it said case. He just gave me a look and said I didnt know my backside from a hole in the ground. Good to know I was right.
Wannadieseldave Nailed this one on the head, the B series was desgined for Case IH.
Rub a little more on that engine data plate , it will say cummins on there.
I have seen the cummins in just about everything you can imagine, from lagoon pumps , gensets , excavators, dozers, wheel loaders , tracked loaders, Rollers, cranes, forklifts and lots of different farm equipment.
We have a tractor with a 4BT in it , and we are going to be getting another with a 6BT in it soon.

Ok our 5220 had the 4BT and the 5240 has the 6BT. We traded the 5220 at 8000 hours of hard loader work. We used that tractor everyday for a minium of 3 to 4 hours feeding. Only thing that let us down on that tractor was the starter once, alternator two or three times and the loader multiple times. Tractor itself was solid.
The 1800 series to the XT series uni-loaders were the best case made IMO, the newer ones are nothing compared to those. The ones they have now are made to run WOT all the time once you put a load on the engine you'll never get the full power once you start to lug, no torque whatsoever. Plus the new ones are proned to blown headgaskets.

I heard somewhere that they basically rolled off the same assembly line(engine-wise) Some where called Case, others were Cummins.....but all and all, Just a RUMBLIN' CUMMINS!!

.The transmission in those tractors is easily good for 20 000 hours if it is not abused too badly , more if you are nice to it. The loader is starting to get sloppy on it , but it still works pretty decent. We are looking for an MX to use on the corn planter, as we have a no till grain drill now , and you can't pull both with one tractor at the same time
The MX tractors are the last ag tractors that are reliable almost identical to the 5100-5200 series The biggest probs on the MX's (depending on the size)are the PTO reversible shafts. when you change from 540 to 1000 pins inside tend to come loose.
They have good trannies in them. We bought the 5240 with 1500 hours and not long after that we lost 4th range out of it. Boss is to cheap to put it back in for $1500, so we make our way down the road at an amazing speed of 14.5 to 15 MPH.
Adam , do you mean you lost 4th range on the manual select , or 4th gear on the powershift? We had some 4th gear powershift troubles , would sometimes kick out on the road , traced it back to a shady pressure switch on the trans control valve.
Seems now that CNH is using Iveco engines in many of thier ag products, not as sure about other parts of thier product line. Wonder how these engines are doing?
