Cab removal on new Superduty Fords
Cab removal on new Superduty Fords
I didn't believe it when I heard it so please don't laugh at my stupid question, but here it goes......Does the entire cab have to be removed on the 2008 and newer Superduty trucks for major engine repairs? I know the engine is pushed way back under the hood, but removing the cab can't be the easiest thing to do!
Is this just a Ford thing? Seems a little weird to me....

Oh god, that can't be true.
I'd like to know how they change head gaskets on these things.
Check it out!

Did you notice on top of the pic it says "2008 ford powerstroke engine", but that is the only thing in the pic you cant see
ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Friends 2008 F450 with 18k on the clock was idling away and he went in to take the horses hay, he came back out after about 5 min. and the truck had stopped running. It was towed and sat down at a FORD dealership from beginning of Oct all the way till the end of Jan. In order to work on the truck they had to pull the cab and bed, truck had to have two complete wiring harnesses put in(first one shorted out 3 miles after leaving the dealership), turbo's changed out, trans changed out...Ford spent a month just trying to figure the problem out.
Refused to lemon law the truck because its considered a commercial vehicle due to the fact its a 1 1/2 ton truck. They did extend his warranty to 100K.
On a brighter note I got called to come down and pick up him and his buddy after this all happened...6 horses + trailer, 8 dogs, plus their gear and we made it home 40 minutes faster then expected at 17mpg. He got 7 1/2 mpg on the way down in the F450...needless to say he was really quite on the way home

I let a buddy ('03 6.0 Ford Owner) look under the hood of my 1996 Dodge....
He said, "WOW, Now I know why you can find guys to work on Dodges, but not on Fords".
I said..."I know " hehehehe

A buddy of mine call and said his 6.0 losing coolant with his 6.0. No evidence of leaking. Told him most likely it's the head gaskets and what is required for replacement. He's really thrilled since the truck is out of warranty.

My boss' 05 F350 6.0 left me stranded in the middle of Northern Saskatchewan about 3 hours from anywhere... Same thing, suddenly no more coolant and then it started to overheat. No evidence of leaks anywhere, just all gone... So I took some water from a creek and put it in there (once the engine was cooled off of course) and made my way down the road and for some reason found a pay phone in the middle of nowhere!!! While driving the truck made a huge cloud of steam. Turned out it was the EGR intercooler... Luckily it was still under warranty though.
