Anyone Know Anything about old Isuzu Diesels

I came across this on eBay:

1985 Isuzu : Isuzu Pup Truck

Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they reliable? Are they dogs? etc...

Thanks!

A buddy of mine had one. Reasonable pep. Tough little truck. It wasn't much for hauling (would you have guessed?) But we worked it pretty hard with no ill results.

Isuzu Diesels

My friend had one for years in his S-10 Chevy. Very reliable but smoky and a super dog.

Chevy sold these trucks as Chevy LUV's . Every one I saw was a rust bucket . It's unusual to see one in good shape like this one but I think his reserve is too high .

I rebuilt one of these engines for a friend years ago. It was damaged by an injested screw. The engine was very well built. I was impressed with the design and materials used. It was a non turbo engine and pretty low on power though.

On a side not, the March issue of Hemmings Motor News has an article on the Top 10 Future Collector Cars. The idea is what isn't popular now, but will be.

They list the 82-86 Chevette diesels as one of the 10. It was an Isuzu as well. I was wondering how reliable that engine was.

I owned two gas Isuzu pickups back in the mid 80's when a close friend of mine was one of the first to obtain a dealership. They are the biggest pieces of crap since Yugos. At the same time another friend bought a diesel 4x4. The engine was fantastic except for very low power. Rust was the biggest problem, but except for the engine it was not a very reliable truck.

250+k

I know a old farmer that has an 82. The body looks like tha paint is the only thing holding the rust together but it has over 250k miles on it and still running strong. 40+ mpg and i have seen him haul the big round haybails on the flatbed on more than one occasion. The rear bumper was on the ground though.

Had Two of 'em.

Yes,they were dogs, but reliable and fuel efficiant.Properly driven, would get 43/44 mpg.Rust was an early problem in WI.Never failed to start,no matter how cold.Still see one now and then here in AZ! No road salt! If you want to see a new one,do a search for Isuzu D-Max.

A friend had one we drove through highschool. Beat the hell out of that truck. It was an 82 model. Best **** truck I have ever seen. 2 teenage boys couldn't detroy the truck.

His dad said the truck would not get replaced till the motor blew. We had our girlfriends over to watch some chick-flick movie like Ghost, one of them lucky movies non the less.

Anywho, while the movie was going we had a brick on the go pedal, the truck was past red-line for 2+ hours with no load and stayed together.

We were disappointed on 2 items that day.

If you like it get it....I may very well bid on it.
