Thumbs up jet fuel

don't know about jp-4, but have used jp-5 in diesel generators. it was derated for use in aircraft. using it cleaned out carbon deposits, engines ran warm for a while, then ran below normal temp for the same load on the generator. personally i would add a lubrication additive just to be safe.

One of my pilot friends and former air force pilot said JP-4 is basically diesel with an anit gel agent with it. But since they pay about $3/gal buying 2000 gallons at a time for the fuel, I have to ask, WHY?

Some food for thought:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ...approved_fuels
From this site:
NOT OK under any circumstances: Jet-B, JP-4, and Cite

http://www.jp8.org/JPoverview.htm
From this iste:
...Compared to JP-4, JP-8 has a higher flash point and lower vapor pressure, making it less volatile; (JP-8) contains less benzene, a known carcinogen; and (JP-8) contains less n-hexane, a known neurotoxicant.
Might be a real good reason they switched from JP-4.

This one you just need to read........this stuff does not play well with others.

I'd pass, even if it's free.

From what I have read it is in emergencys only that you run this fuel or if it is extremely cold outside you can add some to your diesel. Just what I read though

At The Pennsylvania College of Technology we have an aviation program. One of my buddies is a student out at the air port for this major. About 3 to 4 weeks ago he ran JP-4 in his cummins for about a week or two and never really had any gains or losses so I would guess that its not to damaging but also not to helpful either. (Diesel teachers never said one way or the other so he ran it).

On the other hand, a jet engine can run on just about anything flamable.

Thumbs up

re jet fuel hee hee hee, after spending some 27,000 us dollars (hard earned dollars) on fuel last year it is appealing to run on to some .33 a gallon fuel. that is stated another way thirty three cents a gallon!!! I at first said "sign me up" but after thinking on it have continued to think on it. thx for all the great responses and webb site referrals great info thanks so much. kmc.

I was just reading your thread on cheap fuel.

You obviously drive many miles, delivering BMW motorcycles????

Just wondering if I may have passed you on Hwy 401, Feb 14, in Ontario Canada, in a snow storm.

Sweet looking rig pulling a covered BMW Motorcyle branded trailer. Made me drool over what might be inside.

Anyway, that cheap fuel would make real good heating oil for a shop!
