Unfortunately in todays market of supply & demand & refinning not being able to keep up with the demand do to the fact there hasn't been any new refinneries built in the last decade. You can thank the enviromentalist for that. I can not always get the best price for my customers on a particulre day do to a supplier being out of product until the next batch comes down the pipe. I've been doing this for 22yrs out of 30yrs driving truck & look forward to the day when I can retire, 8yrs & 11 months to go.
Curious here (not agreeing or disagreeing): I have been wondering what's up with SOME of the truckers running 35mph (flat land) side by side for miles (10+). No one in front of them, open road. Are they trying to make a point or just Pi$$ off someone? Just a question, not a flame. I have seen this happen multiple times on I44 outside St Louis.
RV's: I would say, most of the folks I see here in Missouri that are towing, are usually only in the passing lane (left lane) when they are passing and then get over. Or they make room for merging traffic, get stuck in the left lane because folks won't give them enough room/time to get back in the right lane.
I say, don't let a few idiots mark an entire group, no matter what they drive.

tankeryanker, you make a good point about the refineries. My dad retired from a refinery (master machinist), its been a long time since a new refinery has been built. All the oil in the world won't help if the refinery is all already running 95-96%.

Just so you know I have ridden in a trucks. and do not wish to drive one, especially in a big city. I return the respect I am given, usually a little more, most never less.
By the way, I am one of the least self centered people you would ever meet. I am very humble and not arrogant at all. I am one of the few that still stops to help people along the road, change tires, pull out of snowy ditches, pull out of the sand on the beach, and NEVER accept money, no matter how much is offered.
When the highway is clear behind a truck and a car is merging, is there a reason that most trucks don't move over to give room for the merging auto? If there is a reason, other than I'm bigger than you and don't have to...I'd love to hear it and be enlightened.
Tempers are starting to flare again like they did in the late '70s. I stopped for gas last week between Lake City and Live Oak on hwy 90 coming back from Mississippi. The tanker truck was outside and when I went in to pay, one of the old timers said to another, " that's why diesel fuel is so high". I guess he figured since I had a big 5th wheel in tow, it must have been diesel fuel. I didn't say anything and paid for my gas. But commercial truckers don't take kindly to our recreational habit of burning fuel that is essential to their income. We're not helping the situation any for them or us. I say we as I've owned diesel pickups for over 21 years and hope to own another before I'm pushing up grass at the bone yard. I think there's a 12cent difference already between commercial fuel price and private isn't it? We might wind up subsidizing even more if our private recreation digs deep enough into commercial profits. It could get interesting.
Yep. Truck drivers are often very assertive. If four wheelers treat them the way they treat us out on the road, and I'm sure they do, I can see why. We run 68-72mph towing when traffic allows. It's aggrevating how many people will pass us and then slow down just so they aren't behind an RV. Then if I go to pass them, they speed up. Then the AH behind them closes in and I'm stuck in the left lane. Then they're all p'ed off behind us even though I'm running 70mph. So I put on the right turn signal and run in the left lane until someone lets us back in. Usually a truck driver. I try to give truckers room. Everything I own was delivered by commercial truck. Even my 5th wheel.
Truck drivers running side by side up a grade? They're probably drag racing up the mountain. I've read countless times how folks with this truck pass those with that truck on mountain grades towing 5th wheels. Why deny them the recreation we enjoy? They're paying far more in road taxes than we'll ever pay.
That's my opinion on it. I'm done...
