How Has Fuel Prices affected you and Your CTD?

With this a predominately performance minded site, I'm curious as to how the current trend towards $5+ for diesel and $4+ for gasoline has affected your decisions on upgrades and driving style.

Please keep this non political and just list the things you have done to adjust to the current economic climate. Then, this should be an eye opener to some and maybe bring tears to the eyes of others. The above poll is by no means totally inclusive. So list anything you feel is pertinent to the thread.

I'll start:

1. I no longer just blow smoke showing off every chance i get when I see another diesel truck.
2. Rarely go out to eat or go to the movie theater (something I use to love doing)
3. Consistantly drive 60-65 regardless of posted sped limit. Unless the limit is below 55mph, then I go even slower.
4. Rarely run past 1/2 full mark, cause at 39 gallons @ $4.50/gal+ it's hard to fill up from empty.

I now ( shamefully ) spend much less time with my truck........ ......she's still in the stables, but an older more efficient filly came into the pasture. My 98 VW got just a tad over 53 mpg last week. Pretty hard to justify driving the truck.......again...... I did take her for about a 80 mile drive yesterday just to get some of the old fuel out of her before getting some fresh #2.

Driving the crap out of my 2003 Jetta TDI wagon. Diesel here in New York is between $4.799 to $4.999. I have seen diesel last week @ $5.059. $60.00 to fill the Jetta.

Truck is parked. My scooter gets 5 times the mileage the truck does, so that is now my prime transport to work.

I am also selling the truck, but not due to fuel prices. We bought a minivan (Dodge), since we are expecting our third child in October. It would be a little rough to fit 3 kids in the back of a 2nd gen quad cab.

We had our 4 kids riding around in the two ext.cab Rams we have owned over the past 11 years ... two of them teenagers. Granted, we were packed but as long as there are seatbelts for everyone, it can be done if you love your truck .

I did sell my truck but not primarily due to fuel costs. Although, I would be strongly considering it with the cost-per-gallon today ... sickening.

Cheers,
PISTOL

Right, but my wife would be the primary driver, and since she is short, she has a difficult enough time getting our 3 year old belted in, let alone having to handle a baby seat in and out. Also, at this point, I don't think I could get her hands off of the new Caravan .

Plus this will enable me to buy my dream CTD in a few years.

I ride the Harley on short trips where I don't need to haul anything. But I haven't changed a thing. I still fill it up every two weeks and I still get between 650-700 miles on a fill up.

I park the truck on the weekends (usually) and drive like a little old lady to work and back. Can stretch fill-ups to once every 3 weeks or so this way.

Truck is parked unless it is hooked to a trailer or has something in the bed. 17mpg and $4.50 diesel doesn't make me happy, even if I can afford it, I don't like to pay it. I am driving my old man-mobile, an 87 Olds 98 that gets 28+ mpg.
I was planning on getting another 3rd gen next year, but probably not now.

Whoo, my old K1100rs only gets about 35mpg with high test though my 1st Harley got over 70mpg in the 1970's on leaded high test.

Now what about this PC12 in your avitar (aviator?) I'm a former private pilot until the cheeseburgers caught up with me.

i try to ride the motorcycle to work and sometimes the bike but i still drive the truck enough to put on about a thousand miles a month, at $4.50 a gallon it doesnt feel good but i love my truck and almost got a brand new 07 last week, dont think i will give up on trucks no matter the fuel costs and no matter how dumb that is... i think dodge should give a way smart cars to put in the beds of the new 08's as an incentive...

Still drive it everyday to and from work...

With the summer coming, ive factored fuel in my budget at $6/gal. So maybe if it hits that mark i'll reconsider my driving habits.

Got a question for you all, since so many seem so concerned about saving money on fuel.

How much of a percentage of your monthly budget is going to fuel?

I'm looking for a bicycle... 6 miles to work...

Diesel is 4.69 here... I still blow a little smoke, but If I give someone a ride, I charge them...
