91 GMC + 92 1st gen = can it be done?

i own a 1991 GMC ext. cab short box. i also own my 92 dodge cummins reg. cab longbox.

if i were to install the cummins in the GMC, i would straight axle it and basically put everything from the dodge drivetrain on the GMC.

but, could i install the GMC body on the dodge frame? i have not checked any measurements as the GMC is 120miles away. seems the bed would be the easy part, provided wheel wells line up. the cab and front panels would be a difficult. is it physically possible and look decent (read "decent" not "its a show stopper")?

i like the GMC's spaciousness/comforts but like the drivetrain of the dodge with cummins. to be able to mix and match the two would be a lot of fun for me!

so let me know what you guys think.

I've heard the chevy frame is superior to the dodge, but not too sure on that one. It'll be a real pita either way you slice it. For as well enginered as the gmc IFS is, I would not hang a cummins over it. Now you're into welding spring perches in, which you mentioned doing, but you'll be losing quite a bit of the inherent smoothness of the gmc going to straight axle. IMHO, you'll end up with a chevy that's just as rattly and creaky as a dodge with a more spacious interior. Is it worth it? That's for you to answer. I for one miss my old 89 K5 blazer, but sincerely believe the 6bt(a) belongs in a dodge. Hey, ya gotta stand for something, right?

I dont think it would be that bad.
Check your body mount locations, some "adjustments" may be required from the plasma cutter and welder.
The only other thing is fuel tank location and steering column angle. From here, it would just be a matter of splicing in wires and changing wiring harnesses.
