I have the luxury of working on the new 10L, 12L, and 16L VolMack engines! I had the same opinion as most, Volvo motors are junk but the new stuff in the last 4 or 5 years has really proven itself in our shop. We have sold the 12L to customers that you could never make happy before that swear by this motor. That 16L is huge in a truck frame!
