General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Sounds like the one of the intercooler boots has blown off. Common problem on the early 6.0L.

I think I heard an ambulance w/ a 6.0 in it the other day, but couldn't see a badge to verify it. It's sad that such an emergency vehicle would have such an unreliable engine. And what's even more sad is, Ford has the market cornered when it comes to medium/light weight emergency vehicles.

if you check out the 6.0 page at the "diesel stop" you will find this is an unbelieveably common scenario. Thing is, even people who have had it happen go out an buy another of these same rigs! (brand loyality?!)

In over 300k miles of driving so far in my life, only once have I had a vechile up, bang and die on the side of the road to the point I was completely unable to travel, and that was an '83 Chevy Celebrity with a 3.0L V-6 and a carberator. I would be so utterly dissapointed if a new, $40k plus vechile did this, I would simply return to the dealer and toss my keys back across the counter!

See, that is where you messed up. Now you have to empty, wash, sanitize the inside of your rig, and replaced half of the inventory, and change clothes. If you could have waited a little, she would have delivered in her home, mother and baby could have been transported together, and dad can clean up the mess. Before anybody gets upset, just joking, been there (delivered in transport), done that ( in on 2nd unit just in time to clean up).

This happened to me an my old '03 6.0 ford. Climbing a small grade in Vicksburg MS. in July. Scared the water out of me. Thought we had a blow out on the trailer. I finally had enough of that piece of crap when they replaced the bed plate due to a faulty seal.
