3208 425HP.....can you tweak these motors??

I have a gent that is getting 2, FASS - 150s for his boat. He has 2, 3208 Cat 425 HP motors running this thing. He is wanting to know what can be done to these motors to get them to....lets say....run better ! Does any have any experience with these motors and is there pump tweaks, turbos, injectors, anything that can be done? Any suggestions/links would be greatly appreciated! I hear these motors are well liked......but dont see a lot in my shop for good reason i guess! haha...Thanks!

I've seen a cat mechanic come out and crank up the horsepower on a 3308, took him about 25 minutes, I dont know how he did it but I know it can be done.

My bud's got a pair of 3208s in his Sportfisher and they're only 275Hp or something like that. 450 sounds pretty healthy.

Go search the MDT forum (F650/750 forum?) at the diesel stop; this has been asked before over there.

I gotta wonder what his motiviation is to soup them up? For more speed? bragging rights? Certainly not fuel economy. If a boats got a pair of 3208's in it OEM - its probably not a speed machine anyways. A displacement hull will require A HUGE power increase to yield even a moderate speed increase. Make sure it doesn't sacrifice reliability. Its not a good thing to lose an engine 100 miles offshore.

But I do appreciate the need for speed - however slight.

Tthese are the numbers he gave me....i am not familiar with this motor at all....but i have found stuff on some boat forums that confirm the HP Numbers. Ill check out the link and the Diesel Stop as well.....

The guy has a Cummins that has the bells and whistles......so i imagine that he wants the same for his boat as well.....i would imagine that one would have to be very balanced how they modded dual motors....or the boat would just do circles? Thanks much all!

Dan

The 3208's your talking about have aftercoolers on the turbo and a huge turbo at that.
Thats about as far as you want to take the 3208. Its been around since the 70's. We have one in a Ford F700 crane truck with over 400k miles on it rated at 165hp. The next version was 210hp. They just kept adding fuel and air to get it up to the rating your talking about.

Once all the accesories are put on the engine, its hard to see the engine. Especially in a boat.

Good analogy................

Except the cat when running stock didn't smoke and puke oil everywhere all the time.

And I bet the feline didn't sound like you were swinging a bag of hammers against an oil drum when you were running down the highway.

The pictures are not that good. Look at the size of the turbo.
