#2 Quirks........

Well its wintertime. I normally cut the fuel about 75% #1 and 25% #2. It's supposed to hit the 50's here all next week so I cut the fuel today of 15 gal #2 and abou 5 gal #1 with half a bottle of power service. Thinking I'll be ok.

FP with the 75% #1 cut is nice. No fluctuations. Mileage and power is ho hum.

Well, tonite it's in the 30's. Start the truck and FP is like a pong game. Up down, back forth, blah blah blah. Until the truck is heat soaked pretty good. Then everything "stabilizes" for the most part. Fp isn't as good as with #1, bout a pound less.

This never happens my winter cut of 75% #1. I realize that the #2 gets thick quicker, but c'mon. The fluctations happen almost instantly.

It seems as soon as the #2 hits something cold it thickens.

Anyone else in the colder climates have this happen to them?It almost seems like the PS doesn't really do anything.

TIA

Ben

I was wondering the same thing as it gets just as cold in Montana. I run straight #2 all winter with Power Service. Never a problem.

Common fuels
#2; #1; Kerosene; blended; #2 Arctic*

(#1 fuel is so dewaxed in some areas they can sell it as kerosene.)

* #2 Arctic is a special #2 only available from a Koch refinery in MN. Guaranteed no gel to -20°F

My brother runs into this all the time with his livery of diesels. The fuel flows from the tank but once in cold fuel lines and injection pump it will gel. Usually happens closer to 10° than 30°
