Mine does not get plugged in until 10*F or below. Usually just two cycles of the grid heaters, a little bit of holding the throttle to 800 rpm once started (30 - 60 seconds) and then 1000 rpm for another 30 seconds, and we're in business. Check your visor - there are cold start instructions there.

 

Thanks to everyone for all the advice! I won't even have the truck here till next weekend, but at least I can get off to a good start. My trucks are my office, warehouse, and shop. No truck... No work! Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

What part of the state you located?

I never plugged my truck in last winter. Started every time with one cycle of the heater.

I keep spares of everything in the truck - a couple of oil filters and fuel separators. Buy them from www.genosgarage.com Always use Stratapore filters - they are made by Cummins for Cummins engines. The air filter is optional - you might need to replace it twice a year. I keep a heavy duty bottle jack, a good spanner wrench along with a couple of 2x6x8" blocks of wood for stablizing the jack. When I was driving my dually, I'd put a 4x4 chunk of cedar in the back, to use when I had a flat - just back up onto the wood and get the dually tire off - lickety split. O'course I had a compressor within arms reach to fill the spare, but I don't expect you to go to that extent.
