General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

well I found a pretty sweet benz only forum with lots of Sharp benz guys...they say if it is in good shape(not a rust bucket) then it would be a good buy...but they act like it is nothing too special... they told me NOT to turbo it tho cause this engine does not have piston cooling jets I wanted to turbo it..they said I could find a 5cyl turbo engine and do that pretty easy...
I am going to go see it in person today I will snap some pics and post back about how it really is.....
thanks for all the comments guys!! all info is good info

As a kid, my Dad had one with a 4 speed on the column. I liked it although it was very gutless, but it would go. It got around 30+ mpg, the diesel got shipped to our house in 55 gal drums and cost .13 cents a gallon. My, but how times have changed! The only problem we ever had with it is a plastic socket that was part of the shift linkage broke, with me driving it, cost abut 10.00 to fix. Looking at the pics brings back memories. I think if I had a line on one, I would go for it and change it to run on WVO.

They made great taxicabs in Europe...When I was stationed in West Germany in the sixties, they were everywhere...Some already had over a million km on the odometer...Just like the Energizer bunny...Ben

I have been thinking about getting mid 80's 300d, or even a 240d with a 4speed standard. Can't beat the mpg's they put out

Nice taxi! I like the wheels that are on it. When I was a kid, our neighbors had a MB turbo diesel wagon. It was slooooow but was still going after we'd gone through an Olds Delta 88 wagon, Chevy Astro and Chevy K1500 Silverado.
